Removing/ Weight of the GTS Seat heaters.

Hey does any one know roughly how much the GTS seat heater assembly weighs and how to dissasemble it? Is it possible without messing up the leather seats too much?

I love all the GTS' features but this is a part that I'll never ever use. Tried it ont he test drive and it just feels like you're sitting on a computer that's gotten too hot. Nothing like the Euro heaters which have heat level settings.

Plus I imagine they probably weight a little bit.

given that the heating unit is inside the seat which would be a b!tch to remove... and that it would likely weigh less than if you skipped lunch and took a dump.

what exactly are you hoping to achieve by removing it?? do you track your car competitively where tenths of seconds count?

hrm...getting a GTS as a track car? doesn't sound right. If i were to get a 86 for sprints on tracks where every tenth of a second counts. then i'll just get the manual GT strip the whole thing out except the dash, drivers seat and doors.

fit a roll cage at the back. put the must in the car like strapping down a fire extinguisher. save heaps more money then getting a GTS then stripping everything off.

Are they really that light? I was thinking they weighed like 5-10 kg.

Not planning on it as a certaintly. Just want the info for my modification plan document as I'm listing the weights of stock vs aftermarket parts and trying to get a sense of what the car will weigh after e.g aftermarket lightweight wheels, lighter exhaust, etc. etc.

Wheels generally weigh 5-10kg each... and i doubt they'd be as heavy as wheels.

Weight savings are a wank unless you're tracking the car and it actually matters, for the money you'd spend on lightweight rays/advan wheels.. lightweight titanium exhaust and other various weight saving high grade components you could buy a turbo kit.

Line up a weight saved 86 against a turbo'd and see where the bang for buck lies.
:burnrubber:

Having said that if weight saving is really the way you wanna go... there was a thread somewhere on a forum where they weighed pretty much everything they could on the car so that way you can decide whats worth removing.

But IMHO it aint worth it.

I still dont understand why we have heated seats in the GTS. If it didn't come with it I am 100% sure no one would give a fuck in this country.

I have never been in a situation where I thought my balls needed to be a balmy 50deg.

Cooling seats might be handy though...

Also is it an actual heating unit that sits in the seat? Wouldn't it more or less be coming from the cars heating and just a fan inside the seat with some extra wires? Surely it wont weigh much at all.

One of the things I cant stand is people asking how much my aftermarket rims and exhaust weigh.. I don't know didn't weigh them, put rims on for more class.. exhaust was changed for better sound. I didn't get it to track.. just to slap a turbo and have fun ;)

it is a heating pad / element like what you put under your carpet and tiles at home

Paragon 10-17-2012 10:03 PM

You will likely find that the heating element will just look like some electricity cords running under the surface of the seats. Unlikely to be any heavier than 500g per seat, I know cause I just got this installed in my bathroom as mentioned above lol

Surok 10-17-2012 10:05 PM

i reckon 50-100grams

fuddbutter 10-17-2012 10:20 PM

I love my seat heaters :(
they are nice on the lower back haha.

you wait till i get to my first track day, Radio will be on, and depending on the weather, either seat heaters or aircon ;)

Rusty86 10-17-2012 10:31 PM

yeah Ive used my seat warmers a few times. Cold rainy nights its awesome! Or during the day, crank the cold aircon to full and hit the heat warmers. AWW YEAH

Although I would have preferred decent quality leather to the ball toasters, I don't think it's worth the trouble to remove them.

For me they'll be like indicators are for tradesmen ... look good on the spec sheet, but not something I'll ever use.

Surok 10-17-2012 11:35 PM

i think mine are only going to be used when my girlfriend has her period and i need to warm her up.
