Modified or Unmolested?
For me, I want this car to stay almost completely stock. The only modification I have in mind is removing the rear seats as, in my experience of 2+2 sports cars they're pointless and only add unnecessary weight. I may also fit high end speakers because I'm a sound geek, but subtly and no massive subwoofers.
In 20 years I want people to love my untouched ft86 that looks just as it did the day it left the showroom, but also I don't want to ruin Toyota's work to make this a pure driver's car by changing anything... What about everyone else though? What mods, if any, do you have in mind? |
I'm sure I will mod it as I do with every car I own. Heck, even with my hyundai I threw on a SRA for shits and giggles. I'm sure I'll be focusing on performance and gaining HP, I think the suspension is going to be great right out of the gate as this is supposed to handle really well so I don't think I'll mess with that for a while unless I think it's really required. Aesthetics-I'll have to see what the car looks like before I can pass judgement on that
|
I'm a big fan of molestation. (I hope no one takes this quote out of context)
My first mods would be regarding the wheels. Depending on what the OEM body kit is like, I'd probably get some 18" wheels (the FR-S concept just looked so spectacular with those big wheels I'd want to get close), drop it with some coilovers and get as flush a look as possible (notice, not "hellaflush" or anything). After that I might look at some lighting modifications like HID kits or something, and then I'd focus on performance. |

Lol Anyways I'd mod it lightly. Tint. Rims. HID (if not stock). Change Rear Wing if necessary. Change go racing clutch. And possibly Short shifter. Also.. I believe there has been a couple threads about this..... |
My first act of molestation is going to be transplanting the pair of 12" subs from my impala. Then i'm gonna take off all of the badges, and follow that with gnarly paint job. If finances are all in order, i may spring for pearlescent. Then on week 2... lol.

As for me, Bridgestone Potenza Re11s, intake, catback and headers, maybe an ecu tune... |
If I am going to be driving the piss out of this car I am going to want to better equip it to support said driving. That, and I do not see the sacrilege in modding a ~$20k Toyobaru.
|
Honestly it'll depend on how the car is stock. I will likely swap to a louder intake so I can hear it approach redline with a helmet on. A second set of wheels for track/autocross tires would be on order likely as soon as I have a date that I'll be able to pickup the car.
Outside of that I'd want to wait and see. This is a new engine and completely new ECU, so there won't be much in the way of ECU tuning for awhile I'd guess (I'm not sure if any standalones even support the D4S system?). It'll take some time and experimentation to figure out which intakes, exhausts, headers, etc work the best as well. It'll also take some time for any decently tuned threaded body coilover (I'm sure the normal junk will hit the market soon, but I want a system that's had some R&D, not just retooling the same crap damper used for other stuff and selling it with x spring rates..). Short term I'd probably get some ground controls and Konis so I can change rates and have them revalved easily enough. Regardless, until I get some track time in the car I won't make any suspension changes. |
:search: or :sm3:
LOL, how many of these threads are there now? But, well it is always fun. So here is what I am doing first: -Pioneer multimedia station with 8 loudspeekers, digital amplifier and subwoofer -Volk Racing CE28N 17" rims (5x114 conversion if needed) -Nitto NT05 245/40/17 tires -AP-Racing brakes -Moton coilovers -KN intake system -Invidia exhaust system -Piaa xenon bulbs and LED bulbs in and out -SPT short shifter, aluminium racing pedals and dead pedal, front and rear strut bars, brakeducts (foglights delete) -Cosworth engine kit (bored and stroked with forged pistons, new ECU and dry sump lubrication) -Vorsteiner CF roof, front lip and rear diffusor -window tint rear and sides -taillights tinted dark red and headlights tinted light blue Then the car gets even more hard-core: -full stripp down -STI widebody kit -CF doors, hood, trunk, painted in body color -wing and flaps -Recaro Pole Position seats -Hansa 6 point belt -Sparco steering wheel, shift knob, pedals and dead pedal -full roll cage -WRX Cosworth Turbo 1.6l Flat4 with 400 PS swap with anti-lag -Volk TE37SL center-lock 17" rims -Nitto NT01 265/40/17 tires all round Well, that is a lot of ca$h. For now, when I get the car, first mod will be WHEELSPACERS and probably a drop if needed. |
I am going to TRY (and i stress "try") to keep it unmolested, with that being said, I will go for every TRD mod available from the dealership on the car. I have my supra to waste my money on modding. But im sure the "mod bug" will eventually catch up with me.
I can almost guarentee I will be putting wheels on it thought. I can see it looking pretty sexy with some work meisters. |
I'm leaving mine bone stock. I might de-badge it but that would be all.
|
I would keep mine mostly stock. Here are the must have mods for every car I own:
Must be stanced: that means a nice drop with some tasteful wheels Very dark tints intake and exhaust, because I like hearing the engine, especially boxers That's it, everything else will be saving for maintaining the car as mint as possible. I'm planning to keep this thing forever. I just hope that it can effectively replace the Prelude I currently own |
Other than adding more power to make it around 300 hp I wouldn't do much of anything. Maybe some brake modifications if they're not strong enough for weekend track events but that's about it.
|
first mod - burnout on crappy dealership tires
second mod - buy better tires :D |
I will try keep it original till warrenty runs out.
Maybe do new rims/tires. Then go from there. Im still keen for a Subaru 6 cylinder to go in. Depends on how the new engine goes like |
depending on how potent this car is, it will be my track car/canyon carver so it will be heavily molested. i have 2 other cars for daily duty so i can make this one more on the extreme. cant wait!
|
300whp
Nice wide wheels/Tires + low offset to make it flush Done... I don't add weight with stereo gear, if anything I will be subtracting weight. Had plans to make a street car/weekend drifter. But it's to gorgeous and new to abuse it this early. My weekend drifter will be an LS1 swapped 240sx with a 6666 Custom Body kit. |
I will molest this car like my red headed step children XD
tho I will mod for driver feel and response as oppose to looks and sound |
Factory aero w/ options that I can afford.
then I will after market mod the crap out of it.(tastefully) |
First I'm gonna get a set of Street Glow neons for the underside. Then I'm thinking some 22" chrome Dub wheels, and then lambo doors. I'm considering reupholstering the dash and seats in purple shag fabric, too. Then I'm thinking of an APC exhaust and intake and an ebay HID kit. Probably stock up on a few of those bomb fender vents too that you can get from Autozone.

You know it's form>function when it comes to "flush", not something I'd be proud of in a car that's designed for spirited driving... |

Need a drift car. Drift cars get body damaged, especially doing Tandem. I want to be able to go All OUT and not be concerned with the approaching wall damaging the car. In the FT, I'll be daily driving, and I don't want to be all banged up when I'm hitting up the car spots. Now if we revisit this question in 10yrs...that's a different story. I assure you it would be full race trim by that time. Maybe in 5yrs...:) PS...Function > Form even when flushed... http://www.tra-kyoto.com/6666/s14/s14.htm 6666 Custom body kit S14. This + LS1 = my next drift car. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._3030206_n.jpg |

Anyone in the OC area that leaves their FRS/BRZ unmolested...
I will molest. I will deliberately walk up to your car--and touch it in naughty ways; therefore, it will be.. molested by a stranger. Horah! |
Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me. I do intent to put an underglow kit, and replace the interior lights with colored ones (possibly UV). Further down the road, it'll be hooked up with a koenigsegg door kit, and the hood will open reverse.
Disclaimer: No bs, i actually intend on doing these things. |

I want to put in puddle lights...

those lights would be cool if they came on only when the doors opened
|
I'll wait and see. I'm not in any rush to do mods.
|
The first thing i will do!!!
Remove the stock cats.. and put high flow cats or test pipes |

Most likely black it out, coilovers, wheels, tires and intake at first. Removing back seats.
Should TRD make a supercharger, I'll grab that. I like a little roar when I step on it, but not something too loud when i'm pulling up to a clients house... I want it to look like this... http://rampantrenders.com/wp-content...nt-650x433.jpg |

KaliKev that looks amazing. Reading down the list of mods I might actually consider a louder exhaust, but don't want it to be intrusive at normal speeds. Can't wait for club meets to walk around checking everyone's rides out :)
|
Sure. Club meets are going to be great fun. Show you ride and look at what others did to theirs.
|
i wanna be the first in the dallas area!!! ill be the main attraction at car meets when it comes out!!!
|
I like to wait on any modifications until the car is 100% paid off. I've been saving up for it and with any luck I can pay as much as 70% of the car off from the get go. Honestly the only thing I'd want to change at all is the speakers and the deck but if I can get an option that has the quality I want BOSE or Infinity, the features such as Blue Tooth and USB, I'd probably be A-okay keeping it all stock.
|
Intake, exhaust system, wheels+tire, sway bar, coilover.
Ride it for a few years, until aftermarket for the car is largely available. |
