No Race Track Seats in Race Car Drivers Every Day Cars..!!
I knew this was going happen...
I put a thread up about how the FRS front seats are puting the hurt on me... maybe you saw.. So I was just thinking I wonder if these race car drivers are driving around in race track seats in their every day cars... Answer - No... German Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel drives an Infiniti FX50 as his personal vehicle, and Infiniti has a partnership with Sebastian’s Red Bull Racing Team... So while Scion has got everyone thinking, yeah, you're a race car driver now, here's your race track seats, real race car drivers are cruisin around seatin on Big Comfy Ones... http://llcollection-groupll.blogspot...yday-cars.html |
cool article, Danica Patrick sounds like a tool.
|
Webber drives a 911 GT2 RS. Those seats are WAY more aggressive than ours are. It's not like every race car driver has a plush SUV or every race car driver drives a stripped out car with race seats. I think your definitive "NO" isn't right, but isn't wrong either.
Side note, for the price I think our seats are a great mix of something between entry track, and daily driver. Perfect for a sports car. |
Hi SuperHatch,
Yeah I guess some are drivin in race track seats, but I would like to visually confirm it before I say for sure... Do you really think though they're toolin the family around in a 911 GT2 RS.. I seriously doubt it.. Weber may have a 911 GT2 RS, but does he really drive it other than a few miles here and there... I'm getting mine re-upholstered as soon the man can do the job... http://lanestrimshop.com My instructions - make it feel like a Lincoln... or at least like the Infiniti FX50 that Sebastian drives.. Also I got to find another place to keep my wallet, or it's going to end up in a place I really don't want it to be... know what I'm sayin... |
Not to thread jack, but has anyone weighed the stock seats?
|
I don't consider the seats in the FR-S overly aggressive. Almost all sports cars come with 'sportier' seats.

I've been on 4 1000 mile round trip drives in this car. The seats aren't that aggressive. I guess it could depend on your body type though. I'm 5'8" 155 lbs and they fit me perfectly. I don't know why you would want them to be plush though. A tight well connected seat helps you to feel what the car is doing, and allows the forces applied by your driving to not swing you out of position. Keeping planted allows you to better feel what the car is doing and what your inputs are doing to the car...that's the whole point of these seats, and this car. Perhaps you should have gotten a G37? |
Gen
Not sure what cars you're speaking of, but my 2006 Mit Eclipse Seats were super comfy, and I loved the car, can't believe they stopped making them. I know one thing for sure, people aren't buying this car for the seats, they're buying it for the body of the car... I just don't understand the need for these things... what do they do anyone..? |
Superhatch
Actually for another 10 grand I might have... but that's another 10 grand... but I do like the body of the FRS way better anyway, it's for me much more of a European Exotic look.. As mentioned my Eclipse was awesome, for $20,000 a great looking car and seats that let you feel the ride but didn't bust you up... I'm kind of kidding about the plush, although if I needed to pick one extreme that would be the one.. |
Stop complaining. I drove around in non-reclinable fiberglass Recaro seats for years (daily driver/race car).
|
Of course I love complaining... especially since my Advil and Aleve usage has gone up...
but that sounds like a whole bunch hard you had there... ouch... now I see a nice Lexus though... |

Sorry if I came off brash, I was just messing around. |
im 6' 300 pounds and i haven't had any discomfort from the fr-s seats..
|
If you don't like the seats than get a SUV. Obviously sports cars aren't your thing.:iono:
|
Our seats really aren't that sporty. I've had Recaro SR3s in my previous Supra, and those felt like they held you in much better than what's in the 86. I'd love to put a set of Recaro SR7s in the 86 one day. I love the feeling of sitting in a sports/bucket recliner seat in a daily car. They're very comfortable.

I track my cars often, and my daily has this in it:

I think the seats are a perfect compromise. Could they be better? Sure who wouldn't want better. I think they had to skimp on the seat foam as most car manufacturers do. Some good 1" medium density memory foam worked into the right spots for the portion you sit on and near lower back - or add lumbar adjustment would help give more flexibility for more body types.
It's hard to make 1 seat type for everyone. If you can get an upholster to tweak it then pick the surfaces material you like with color and stitching but definitely get the memory foam and maybe a lumbar bladder then you will love your seats again. |
I love Webber's comments on the GT2 RS in that video. "It's a bit naughty..." :D
|
Haha nice article, But id have to agree with @hippari and say that danica does sound like an idiot
|
I'm a bigger guy, 5'10" 240lbs and I'm perfectly comfortable in these seats. You might want to just adjust how you are sitting in them.
|
Yeah, I thought the seats were perfect. Obviously haven't had a lot of seat-time, but I've been in WAY worse.
I guess I don't understand the point of this thread...if you want a comfortable car to drive around, you shouldn't be looking at a sports car in general. The suspension is going to be stiffer, the cabin is going to be louder and more spartan, and the seats are going to be less comfortable...at least at this price point. If you want a near-perfect blend of comfort and sport, look at a CTS-V or M3...although be prepared to spend $70k. Even then the suspension is stiffer and the road noise is louder than a normal Cadillac. Finding that balance requires a lot more money. Also keep in mind that the Recaro sport seats in the CTS-V are a $3400 OPTION. So, I'd rather have Toyota/Subaru pick "sporty" over "comfy" if they had to choose one to keep the price down. |
You could be driving around in an Elise:
http://autocar-zone.com/images/2011/...Seat-Image.jpg Another thing to keep in mind is that racers drive cars, for their profession, drive cars faster and harder than you can anywhere on the streets. So, why would they drive around another race car on the roads, when they couldn't get nearly the kind of joy out of it as they can just doing their normal job? It'd make sense for a racer to drive a normal car because they don't need to have that thrill/excitement on their off-days. They go through so much already for testing, practicing, qualifying, and racing that a normal car is fine for them on their days off. On the other hand, most normal people like us have no outlet other than our daily commute and weekend track-days. That's where we get our enjoyment...so to feel like you're in a sporty car that keeps you planted in your seat as you wind around tight corners...that's where we get OUR thrill. I'll finish on this...the first thing that REALLY drew me to the FR-S when I was looking at it were the seats. I knew I liked the styling of the car and read the good reviews, but it wasn't until I sat in that drivers seat that I actually knew I wanted one. |
|
and Danica sounds like a tool because she IS a tool. Most over-rated person in the professional automobile racing world.
|
Are you obese, sir? You could replace the factory seats with a pair of Corbeau recliners for less than it would cost to reupholster the stock ones, I bet:
http://corbeau.com/products/reclining_seats Check out the Sport and GTSII, they look like the most daily-driver friendly... Quote:
