UPDATE (ONE MONTH LATER): 11/11/2012

Happy one month to our baby, the FR-S!

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8199/8...28ec48d6_z.jpg

We put the JDM Emblems + Wheel Caps and the Euro GT86 Emblem (for those who saw my thread about it)

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8341/8...d27d9d1641.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8479/8...bbc99eb9d1.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8208/8...9a51a5f582.jpg

And also the JDM Sidemarkers.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8070/8...de29053a18.jpg

We have the BeatSonic Shark Fin in a Group Buy as well!

And that's all there is to it! We have no plans of doing anything else to the car, but this thread will still have a purpose.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8350/8...7a7298f539.jpg

In the first month my dad has only put 101 miles on it (We got it at 5 Miles). I actually calculated our mileage rate if we kept driving 101 miles a month on average.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8490/8...ff1413c5_z.jpg

I highlighted 29 Years because that's how old a 1984 Ae86 is. Can you still find a stock Ae86 with such low miles?! I would drool at such a thing...

I won't be driving this car until after the break-in period because I'm still learning how to drive a manual transmission.

I should also note that we'll rarely find a day to bring it out between Now until April because of the rain season, so I doubt we'll be hitting 100 miles again per month. I'm guessing for this second month it'll get an additional 75 miles to it.

So I will keep this thread updated based on stories behind the miles, we usually go to a random spot when we drive this car and I always bring my camera. I'm actually considering making a scrapbook for it!

If it happens, I hope my children and my grandchildren will be able to enjoy this car...

Nice write up! Your joy came through very well. ENJOY! I am sure you will remember that car forever.

BRZranger 10-13-2012 04:51 PM

Did you save the plastic wrap for memorabilia?

DIM 10-13-2012 05:06 PM

Well worth the wait huh? And awesome detail job. what are you planning for your first mod?

I can see your a Toyota family. You have a Prius, 4Runner and now an FR-S? Is that all you guys you own?

Were pretty similar lol. I drive a Celica GT-S (soon to be an FR-S hopefully  ), and my family owns a '97 Previa S/C, '03 Tundra, '03 IS300 and my bro's '09 Corolla Xrs.

Yes definitely worth the wait, and thanks! We won’t be doing any engine mods…well maybe we’ll install the TRD air filter. We’ll be switching the Scion emblems over to JDM Toyota emblems, and maybe install staggered 18 inch wheels. We already switched the key fob to a Toyota backplate :)

We are definitely a Toyota family. We also have one more—my car—an 06 Corolla S. Toyota is a big part of my family as well!

That’s awesome! I’ve been looking for used Celicas to learn stick in! I love people with familes who have Toyota pride :respekt:

Lol! It’s too bad we’re going to be super careful with this car, all driving aids will stay on, all those stories of the FR-S accidents spook me!

Curious, did the dealer make you sign a waiver that states the dealer would not be responsible for any shipping damage to the body, since you did not remove the plastic wrap?

Just like a majority of members on here, I waited three years for the production of this car. After the release in June, I didn't think I was ever going to get one, but my dad started showing interest in the car; until in August, we were ready to buy one, but we either backed out because it wasn't the right color/transmission or because it had forced dealer equipment. So my dad and I had one pre-allocated at our dealership with no known date of arrival. We kept waiting for about 2 months.

On 10-11-12 I heard my garage open with an unfamiliar, yet familiar, exhaust note. My dad usually drives a 4runner, and the exhaust note I heard definitely was not that of a 4runner. So--being curious and skeptical--I checked downstairs to see if my instincts were correct, and to my surprise they were!!

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8334/8...b31bd1d8f6.jpg

Our brand new FR-S was right there in front of my eyes! My dad had surprised me with the arrival of it! It was a very weird feeling, and it was almost like a dream, especially considering that this car is my dream car.

Our VIN ends in 86 ;)

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8332/8...ecd1d23515.jpg

Getting it from our dealership was awesome, there were no forced equipment and we have a fully base FR-S with the only options being the wheel locks and carpeted trunk mat.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8333/8...84bd3634_n.jpg

Of course, for a special car like this, I HAD to do the first wash and detail so my dad, knowing me, requested all the service guys at the dealership to only do the PDI, without a wash or taking any of the plastic off.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8193/8...25eb732f_n.jpg

To me a new car is not exciting unless you get a completely dirty car with all of the protection film and plastic!!

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8470/8...ca26cb0e_n.jpg

The next day I began what would be a 10-hour detailing and cleaning job. First I took off the temporary protection film--which was pretty fun and special because it felt like I was unwrapping one huge Christmas gift :)

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8468/8...fd38ab05_n.jpg

After inspecting the car for any trouble spots, I went on to the start the actual wash, the picture followed by this is a picture of me and the first stream of water EVER to the car!

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8056/8...6159d693_n.jpg

I gave it a nice soak to remove all the sitting dried up dirt and did the soaping after everything looked clear. It was perfect weather for washing a car because it was cloudy!

After the wash and dry my dad moved it into the garage (I don't know manual transmission yet) and he went to work. I got my blow dryer to dry out the small parts of the car and the weather strips. Then I wiped parts of the engine bay. Then I prepared the car for the interior cleaning which consisted of vacuuming, cleaning the interior side of the windows, and installing the floor mats.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8327/8...193b037c_n.jpg

Following that, I cleaned the exterior side of the windows. There were a lot of hard water spots so I used rain-x to get rid of them, and I used Turtle Wax's bug and tar remover to get rid of the adhesive from warning labels and what not.

After that, It was time to prepare the car for the waxing. I got my 3M painter's tape to cover up all the plastic trim and the small cracks of the car.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8190/8...799dd77b_n.jpg

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8471/8...6550e2b1_n.jpg

The surface was ready to receive wax, no claying or polishing needed because it was fresh off the boat. I used a banana compound wax which I do not know the brand of, but it's the one they use at the car dealership and it's extremely effective; I've used it on my other two cars and it lasts long as well.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8476/8...59b2293e_n.jpg

Waxing the car was fun, and also easy because the car is so small. When I finished buffing the wax, I moved on to my final step--the wheels. I was actually afraid of waxing the wheels because of the finish, so I just put on Meguiar's Endurance tire gel, just a conservative amount because I didn't want it to spray over the car when driven.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8469/8...653d3bc1_n.jpg

After that it was time to clean my mess up!

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8330/8...47c76627_n.jpg

This car means a lot to me--it's my dream car and my favorite car. It's hard to believe I have one. I have to learn stick-shift on another car before I drive this one and I can't wait! This is my and my dad's weekend toy, not to be driven on a daily basis. It's also my dad's first sports car and I'm so excited for him, all he's ever driven were 4runners and Siennas

Here are some other pictures…

It makes absolutely no sense to buy a car like this and never drive it. It's a waste but that's just my opinion of course.
