Improve on plastic?
What does this mean? Cause plastic is plastic... it's shit. |
I had a good look at a new Toyota Aurion the other day and compared to my Honda, it was absolute crap!!! This Toyota is made in Australia though....
Soft touch plastics have come a very long way over the last few years, I'm sure the FT86 will be good. |
I bet the FT will have a very small portion of soft plastics over hard plastics. The base price will be in the low 20's so there is no way it's going to have a lot of soft plastic areas. I went to a car show couple months back and I realized something while I was there and checking out every car makers vehicles. You have to spend at least 32-33k base for 100% soft plastics. Every other car with a base price much lower had some form of hard plastics including VW vehicles and the mid size sedans. I don't care for 100% soft plastics interior because under that soft plastic is hard plastics anyways.

Hey Sub, can you explain what soft plastics really are? I think I have an idea but I'm not sure

I work at enterprise as one of my jobs, and I've noticed some new cars with some very hard plastic interiors lately, such as the new VW Jetta. I have never been in a car that has felt so cheep and plasticy every place I touch. I mean the doors, dash, and even steering wheel feel harder then the body of the car. And the sound it makes then you tap on it just sounds hollow and, well, plastic... Where other cars you touch the doors, and dash, and it just feels soft. I know the difference between vinyl, leather, and plastic, and some cars just know how to make a good plastic.
Its kind of like when you little and you have hot wheels. Some are cheep and some are name brand. You can feel a difference. I honestly don't mind with the FT86/BRZ. Im probably just going to gut it out down the road anyways. Make it as cheep as you can :) |
Yeah, I don't expect the fit and finish to be on the Lexus level, but lets not make this a Yugo either please lol

First post!
It can also come down to the finish though too. For example I know someone who a few years ago upgraded from their '90 Mazda 323 Astina, which although nearly 2 decades old at the time, still had a decent feel to the interior, whereas the brand new Focus they bought had a cheap, tacky feel to the interior. The Focus' interior plastics had that hollow feel yayforaddison mentioned. Similarly current and last gen Mazda 3s have a very comfortable interior when you compare them to their sister car the Focus. So even though there may be similar materials in play, how they're put to use can make all the diff. |

If ur saying this cause all your cars are plastic then yes... Shit... My aristo has one bit of hard plastic which is the cup holders... Reset is leather or vynial. The vyinal feels 10* better then hard plastic. |

I hope there are a good blend of plastics, I detest hard plastics because they are garbage, but they do help shave cost and some weight. vs Softer plastics/leather/pleather/other upholstery.
If i get hard plastics in the FRS, they are getting replaced with carbonfiber. |
