Pulled battery for 5 minutes, now massive gas pedal slop
I really don't know what to say about this. I was experiencing rough idle issues, no code, and figured pulling the battery to let the car go back into relearn mode may help the issue.
Anyways, I just took it for about a 20 mile drive around town and was driving like an idiot. Missing downshifts, almost stalling off the light. I couldn't figure out what was wrong. Then I tried to rev the engine at the light. Much to my amazement I now have about 2 inches of dead gas pedal. How the hell do I fix this? Before if I so much as let my foot rest on the gas pedal the RPMs would climb. Now I need 2 inches just to get them to start crawling up... Try rebooting again, see what happens, if you got a scangauge or equivalent, make sure the throttle position looks right. Throttle is supposed to work off differential voltage so there should not be issues with that or we have another massive recall situation since the reverse of your condition would be unintended acceleration. Might be your computer messing up the voltages or not engaging at proper voltage level then trimming back thinking the sensor is set further out.

After resetting the ECU you're also normally supposed to let the car idle for at least ten minutes without any throttle. The mapping needs to relearn the atmosphere.
I'm not sure if this still stands for newer cars. |
@TOMIMOTO is correct. When you first start the car, the throttle needs to relearn its position at idle. DBW cars do not have the Idle Air Control valve found on cable throttles. The IAC lets a little air through while the throttle is fully closed. DBW always leaves the throttle cracked open a bit at idle.
Reset again, and let it idle for ~5min. It should settle in, and you'll get your throttle back. |
its about two mins

The music makes it impossible to hear the engine rev. Why the useless music?

Normally Subaru DBW does a check at key on and will set codes for any abnormal operation. I would try unplugging the negative again, hitting the brake pedal a few times and then reconnecting. Upon turning the engine back on listen for the throttle blade opening and closing at first key on.

2 minutes then a little driving around. Its normal as the ecu has to learn. When doing the Visconti tune we all experienced it. After 50 miles or so all was well.
