I played the Rival mode in the demo and as impressed as I was with the graphics/physics and layout, I was dismayed by the traffic...I was bitching to my wife about how every lap at least half of the corners are ruined because there is a slower car at turn in, apex, and/or track out...managed to do some decently quick, clean laps, but am perplexed how the top players got clean laps as fast as they did...just doesn't seem possible. :iono:

The Rival is a Ghost...and is a replay of their best lap...so that pesky R8 the ghost is passing through on your lap wasn't there on their lap...You are supposed to beat the Rival, not follow them or their line. And you do have a choice...look farther ahead, see the pokey car and plan accordingly...just like in real life.

I bought a new XBOX to play this on, since my previous unit was a 1G, pre-HDMI and incompatible with Kinect...plus it would freeze after 10 minutes of gameplay...so yesterday my new XBOX and FM4 LCE came and I only had about an hour to get it all setup, my FM3 data transferred, install FM4, DL all the updates and enter the LCE codes and DL that content...I was left with about 20 minutes of actual playtime.
After all that was done, I managed to play the first five races in the Career Mode and have to say that I like it much more than FM3. The physics are more realistic (especially with the Simulation steering mode--cars are downright twitchy, especially on the "stock" tires) and I think I do like the realism more on this than I do on GT5 (I am basically finished with GT5 [I still need to DL 2.0] and only play when new Seasonal Events are available). I am not sure I care or understand the "Corner," "Pass," or "Drift" awards are for though.
I'll be spending tonight in the Rivals Autocross section with some members of a racing board I am on...should be interesting.
XBOX GT: jsinpa
PS3 GT: oneday_js (Or is it "oneday js"? I can't remember if Sony allows the underscore or a space...only one way is allowed though, so you'll figure it out pretty quickly.)
