Personal choice: 2013 Fr-s vs 2008 Infiniti G37S

I am in a dilema. I was bent on getting a Fr-s in whiteout, but my cousin made me a really great offer. He is selling me his 2008 Infiniti G37S for 25k, which would pretty much be the manual Whiteout before interest and taxes.

His G37S is White, has custom work done all over it. 330hp I believe. Stock black leather interior, stock bose sound system. Ipod connectivity etc. He painted the wood grain and chrome on the inside white to match a black and white concept.

He had work done on the headlights. The headlights he got done are called Iron Man Headlights, as pictured below.

He blacked out the taillights, which look gorgeous at night. Similiar to this, but on a White one, still keeping that Black and White concept going.

He also has a custom exhaust on there, installed coilovers he bought online, and some 20 inch rims... He EASILY put in 10k. The only thing left to do is turbo it..which I would do:). I love both cars, and I know the Fr-s would drive better, but not sure if I'm missing out on a better deal than than the scion. If I get the Fr-s, I would pretty much do everything he did to the Infiniti.

I actually have a picture of it I barely remember uploading.

Which one would you guys choose?

I was in the same boat as you. Back in Jan of this year, I almost bought a super clean 2008 G37 with 18K miles on it for 25K. I drove that car and I haft to say hands down the G37 has a better interior, quieter cabin, better stock radio, moon roof/sun roof options, more power, etc..

Now I almost got that car, till I read about the twins. I decided to hold off. Looking back, I feel I made a better choice and here is why

-New car vs used car with little to zero warranty left
-cheaper to maintain
-better reliability(I know the g37 was pretty decent on its own right)
-better gas mileage
-Unique car. All you see are G37 coupes and sedans on the road, wanted something different
-something that was light and nimble that I could learn to track a car in the right way

Now if you want/like the power the G37 and you can trust your cousin that he took care of the car, go for it! Both are excellent cars and it all depends on what you want in a car. I wanted a cheap reliable daily sports car. I chose the FR-S 6 months later.

I was also in this dilemma also. But I think the car I might go with is a car that sits between both the FRS and G37 especially if I'm not fond of the BRZ's engine. I don't like my cars in the higher parts of 3000lbs(3600lbs+). A 370Z is what I think I'm leaning more to since I love the G37's platform without the extra 400 lbs of weight, extra 4 inches of height, and extra 16 inches of length.

Once you drive the two cars, I think your decision will be easy. As far as 2-door sports coupes go, they couldn't be more different. One is about luxury/power, the other is about the cheap but pure driving experience.

Only you know which you prefer. Those on this site are probably biased towards the latter.

my cousin has a newer generation g37s coupe with the auto tranny. he let me drive it once and i really hated it. i didn't tell him that but that was the truth. well, at least the truth when comparing to the lively drive and feel which comes from a car such as the frs/brz.

no offense but ive always thought of the g37 as a 'knock off' version of a bmw 3 series coupe, except without the richness in the drive and build quality.

the frs/brz is a car that you can 'wear' when driving it and sitting in it, if you know what i mean. the g37s has its own market but its too bulky and too cooshy hehe. feels more like a boat than a sports car.

my 2 cents

I think the G37 drives great. Has a really solid on-center feel, and good power delivery from the VVEL engine. It is quiet and smooth, and has all the options the BRZ/FRS has for the most part. And I like how you can roll the windows down and remote start the G37.

The G37 is hands down the better daily driver, and has a more useable back seat. It has more power, but mileage does suffer a bit.

The BRZ/FRS twins are cheaper, and more fun.

Did your cousin say why he is selling? Also, go to Kbb and get some idea what his car is really worth. Custom mods do not normally add to the value of the car. Make sure its the deal you think it is. Turboing the G will cost an arm and a leg too. Do your homework before jumping in.

My cousin wanted to sell the car to buy a Gt-r next year. It's his dream car and his money so yeah... BUT he will have to sell it to someone else. I made my decision and have went with Whiteout!

The infiniti was a great deal, but I didn't feel right driving "his" car. I'd rather have my own car and put my own personal style into it. It was still a beauty to behold. I'll get pictures up later..

I think you made the right call. Run it stock for a few years with some bolt ons, then if you feel the need for more power, by then plenty of great SC and Turbo kits will be out. Congrats and don't forget to post pictures :)

Agreed, the g is a sporty luxury car but not a sports cars like u got, good call

armythug 10-14-2012 08:54 PM

Damn that was a tough call. Nice choice OP. A lot of us can appreciate what that G can bring to the table. It's a very nice car that's a Stillen supercharger away from easy 500hp. But I respect your decision to paint your own picture instead of buying your friend's car that is all done up.

_F-R-S_ 10-14-2012 09:03 PM

wont turn as much heads.. but still a better choice imo

enjoi23 10-14-2012 10:13 PM

Yeah, I am very happy with my whiteout...I don't regret anything.. I mean, I see this beautiful G everyday anyway since my cousin lives down the street from me. lol. And yeah, if he decides to not sell it, it will be twin turbo-ed for 550hp..

fatoni 10-14-2012 10:53 PM

sports luxuries just seem like a contradiction to me. the qualities of sport and luxury are polar so any compromises are much more pronounced. i can live with sporty wagons or luxury 2 seaters but when sport and luxury combine, nobody wins imo
