Rear camber problem
I tried to align my car today, it has h techs and oem camber bolts, everything is good except my right rear camber which is -2.5. Could this be a bad spring or shock? They were installed properly but my right rear is almost a half inch lower than the left.
If I do have to buy rear lower controls i'm thinking GTSpec but really think I have a bad spring. Chris at Titan is handling this for me on his vacation I'm just curious what you guys think the problem might be. |
They only way the shocks and springs effect the rear alignment is because of the ride height. so lower= more camber due to the geometry.
Unless that corner is much lower than the others it's not a problem with the spring. It's probably from the subframe being slightly off-center. |
It is a little lower, the springs were only supposed to drop the rear .8" and the left side is, the right is almost a half inch lower than the left.
Ok this is weird, the tech measured some inner components of the suspension to the ground and the right was lower but i just measured the fender lip to the ground and the right rear is actually higher than the left, something is definitely up with this i just don't know what. |

Even when stock, the fenders may be off left-to-right by a decent amount. It happens on a lot of cars. No one usually measures the right height before installing a suspension though, so no one notices. I don't know if anything is wrong with your setup though. |
Shocks are good, spring looks to be seated properly and isn't making any noises so i'm either thinking bad spring still or i just have to get some camber arms. I'm kinda upset though the reason i got these springs is so i wouldn't have to buy any alignment parts, i probably would have got something with more drop if i was going to have to buy parts anyways.

Can a mod merge this thread with the wonky rear camber thread please?
I have the SPC 67645 lower control arms on the way. |
the "one side being higher than the other side" might possibly be due to no one being in the car? maybe if you sit in the car itll even out. ive heard of a few cars with the rear camber being off side to side by alot... sucks that we have to spend so much on control arms i wish we had a bigger market
|
Got the rear lower control arms installed today and got the car in alignment, rear is now -1.5 on both sides, front is -1.3 on the left and -1.4 on the right. Toe isn't perfect but well within specs and the car feels better now with the camber being set.
I will be looking for a higher quality control arm from Whiteline or Nameless in the future, these will work to get camber in check for those who don't want to install the Whiteline camber bushing. These are really easy to install we had the new ones on in 15 minutes after getting it in the air. |
The ride height difference is something that has been present in Subarus since the early 2000's.
The rear camber being off from one side to the other isn't an issue with the centering of the rear subframe. Every suspension arm in the rear of the car ties into the subframe thus all points are even. Centering can affect other alignment settings though. |
I am looking forward to some more offerings coming out for lower control arms, these SPC's do the job but they aren't exactly beefy or attractive looking. i hope Whiteline or Nameless come out with some soon.

We are using SPC arms on ours and they are working fine. I like the adjustment better on the SPC arms than anything else on the market.

A boxed arm would be better, but if you consider the fact that three crush tubes are being bolted down to reinforce the arm two of which are more solidly bushing instead of bearing mounted, the arm is definitely stronger than what you would first think. The inner bushing on the SPC arm is also much stiffer than the stock inner bushing.
As some will no know us here, we have been working on Subarus and other cars for over 10 years with many thousands of hours spent developing suspension and drivetrain components. Considering the similarities of this car to the latest gen Impreza in terms of suspension this is a pretty easy transition for us. Let us know if you guys have any detail oriented questions. Tony |
