Should I sit out this round and see what comes in 2014?
This is a mini-rant but also a request for perspective. I've been following the twins for a good while but just cannot make up my mind on trim level. The specific things I want are spread out across the FR-S, BRZ Limited, and BRZ Premium. The Limited has everything I want (mostly), but a ton of things I don't want and don't want to pay for.
Things I specifically want: *The better starting price of the FR-S (starts lean) *Auto for MPG and commuting (don't argue this please) *Push to start (BRZ Limited only) *The FR-S stereo I believe is more powerful and I like their stock head unit better (But I can add the 10" BRZ subwoofer to compensate I guess) *I DON'T want the wing that comes on the Limited (I'm not going for a cool look but a professional/refined look). *I like the BRZ seats better, and the less "look at me I'm a scion" overall design There are more things that I can't recall off-hand, but basically it seems like everything I want/don't want is spread out among the three. I just want a really fun car to drive, which previously I never even considered because I tend to be a practical guy when it comes to cars. However the low starting price and decent MPG has allowed me to be more adventurous. But now I see that in order to get the few things I care about I automatically have to pay about $30k (I don't know how much the 10" sub is) and I get a ton of stuff I do NOT care about and in some cases don't even want. I know I am "getting" a lot of extra things for the price, but I absolutely don't care about almost all of them. Not even in the "glad I got them I guess" category. I did the same thing with my current car and now I regret all these extra options, I feel like I'm sitting on value that's being wasted on me (18" wheels, moonroof, sport package, etc). Should I settle on the cheapest one I can get and just enjoy the car, or wait to see what comes next year? |
There likely won't be much added or changed next year. May/June/July is when the new MY usually shows up. I'm sure there might be some color changes but nothing drastic.

Although I am a Huge fan of this car...Love mine to Death...and have had some really Bitch'n cars in the past, but the unpretentiousness of this car is where it shines...with that said, don't over think it. Honestly, you make some good points, but don't over think the car. I bought the BRZ over the FRS...simply because Scion did not have any FRS locally...it wasn't until after I bough the BRZ at the dealership did I even care to ask about the Scion. I'm a long time Toyota guy and so is my Family, but the BRZ was there at my feet and I don't regret a single thing about it. Sure I paid more over the FRS, but it is what it is...I Love my BRZ and I didn't over think it. Remember, it's just a car in the end!!
Good Luck!! |
The spoiler on the limited is classy. Very low profile. It's not like a riced out Honda
|
Get it now, and trade the car back again when the STI gets released. This is my plan and I'm sticking to it :)

Get the BRZ premium. It's only $1000 more than the FR-S and it has HID and Navi. The only thing you won't get is the push to start. You can probably add that later, but I wouldn't pay more for the Limited just to get it, especially if you don't care about the other features that come with it and especially since you don't want the spoiler. Don't need a new car right now? Wait 2 years and it will probably be a cheaper/better car.

It's only a couple grand more for the Limited... Installing the Smart Key system properly with all of its sensors is going to cost almost as much... Plus you don't get the semi-leather bolster seats the Limited has...dual auto climate control... foglights, etc etc... Getting the Limited is well worth the money IMHO.
If you are planning to get the premium trim; might as well just go with the Scion and retrofit HIDs and the Nav screen... |

Yeah I'm starting to come around, I'm just so spoiled now having the key never leave my pocket.

That day I didn't realize it until I got into the garage, into the car and pressed the Push Start button. |
Sounds like the OP is just being whiny. If you can't find a suitable model between 2 trims of BRZ and one from Scion, maybe you can find your nirvana elsewhere? I hear Hyundai has some different packages...

Yes, you should wait.
If it is anywhere near an "option" for you. Cars will only ever get better and better from year to year. It's not like next year everyone is going to say "Oh Sh&t! Subaru and Toyota really messed up the twins! They made them worse than last year." The problem with most of us, is that we can't wait. We want the car yesterday not tomorrow or the next. |
OP, do yourself a favor and go buy yourself a hot neon green v6 mustang w/ track package. Get it in auto too.
