Magnaflow Exhaust. JRP...

2 Attachment(s)
just wondering who locally has the magnaflow and how they like it? Did you install it yourself or have someone do it for you?

I ask because I bought this at JRP during their midnight madness sale. I got around to installing it today and the front of the first resonator is too close the a supporting structure of the body (it rattles and bangs when I drive)

Looks like the piece of pipe from the flange to the resonator is about 1" short. if it was an inch longer the resonator would be past the body and not be an issue.

I called JRP and asked a few questions and the fella just blew me off since I installed it myself... This isn't the first time I've spun a wrech... Told me to call back tuedsday to talk to the only guy there that has an FRS... seriously... I have to wait untill tuesday to get this resolved...

Anyway... if anyone has a magnaflow, and has 30 mins to spare to help a fellow forum member... could you please crawl under your car and get a measurment from the upper side of the flange to the face of the resonator..

There really isn't much room for error installing this kit. One hanger for the mid pipe and the four hangers for the muffler...

Thanks

Have a great Thanksgiving all...

I have one and also bought it from JRP. I installed it myself and have no issues. I will take a look at some point today, but have a couple of other jobs to do first. I will get back to you. When you say upper side of the flange, do you mean on the top side of the pipe (closest to the body), and do you want the measurement from the inside of the flange (where the 2 pipes meet), or back side of the flange?...just so we're talking apples to apples.

Ok, I see where you are talking about. I've got about 1/2" of clearance there and it doesn't move enough to make contact. Try this...loosen your clamps and bolts, then fold up a rag a few times, and wedge it in that spot. Tight. Then tighten everything back up and pull the rag out. that should make a difference. BTW, from the back of the flange to the face of the resonator is exactly 10", measured from the bottom.

Ok, got under it again and had to separate the rear section a wee bit to push the resonator out of the way a bit more... took it for a spin and it's all good..

Thanks for having a look at yours and at least verifying that mine isn't an oddity.

Also for those reading, JRP had nothing to do with this... I actually only posted their name in the topic to garner a few more people to read and maybe respond.

I'm sure JRP appreciates the slanderous negative publicity.
But - as they say in show business - ANY publicity is good publicity !:barf:

I got the LAST Magnaflow JRP had in stock at 9 am of the opening of the midnight madness sale.

I immediately went to my buddies lift and installed the system starting from the resonator pipe then to the muffler section.
It was just a matter of using a bungie chord under the res pipe to hold it in place while adjusting the fit for clearance issues.
Then adding the muffler , making final adjustments and tightening all bolts.

The installation was perfect.
However - after a few days of driving you MUST re torque the bolts (especially the muffler bolts) as they DO loosen up.

Love my magna flow by the way - NO DRONE drowning out the stereo at cruising speed, nice burble and tone, yet authoritous sound when you stomp on it.

Subtlety and understatement rather than flashy cheese go well with our car design.:happy0180:

I have the exact same issue with mine. It wasn't a big deal until a went over a few bumps and the resonator knocked against the under panel. This is totally unacceptable. I measured 10.5 in from the engine bolt gasket side to the front edge of the resonator. I agree, I think it needs to be about 1-2 inches further back. Has anyone with a "good" one taken a measurement to confirm this length? I wonder if I just got a poorly built one? Otherwise everything down stream fits just fine.

Here are a few pictures of mine.

When I got there before lunch on Saturday he said he just sold "the last one" that morning.

So false alarm to my issue noted above. I loosened all the hardware up and took a wag of rags and shoved it in this tight spot, then torqued everything down good. I also loosened the bolt up the stock pipe some off the bracket at the back end of the transmission, this seems to give me just a little bit more ability to adjust and give more clearance. After everything tightened and rags removed, I have about a fingers space around the resonator. I went for a test drive and all is good. I'll check the hardware after some driving time to tighten them once more, but I think its all good.
