You might have the only up there for a while...congrats!
How much longer till snow is on the ground? |
Well, my BRZ was actually BRZ Pre-Order #9. furtive is the only other owner that is from Alaska that's on here, as far as I can see. However, you're correct in ascertaining that I will be the only black BRZ for a while. hahaha
Actually, we got about an inch of snow last Saturday, which pushed me into getting 205/55R16 Hankook iPikes wrapped around steelies REAL quick! That was actually very early and it left quickly for most places. Climates changes have really affected our weather as time progresses. Normally winter doesn't start until the last week of October. So I just took the car out for a spin tonight with a friend and have some mountain fun. Got it to slide a little and took some corners aggressively... WOW! So composed! This car is PERFECT for my city-driving lifestyle. I can totally see why people would want more power, but it really doesn't need it. So far I'm loving it! |

I have no clue how people are crashing these things except that they must be turning on the Full Retard mode/switch. I've been having a blast getting the car sideways with just VSC Sport Mode. If you keep a good angle you can prevent the light from showing up, otherwise the car will stop your tomfoolery.
As confident and experienced as I am with RWD, since I've only had the car for exactly a week I haven't tried it with Traction Control completely off. I'll probably wait until Spring for that since winter is around the corner and I'm having enough fun just getting used to what the car has to offer initially. I had some fun tonight cruising with a fellow BRZ owner. |
does the alaskan BRZ come with underbody covers for the salt protection?
|
No, we still get the same USDM BRZ that the "Lower 48" states get. I believe even Canada doesn't get them, so the BRZ is pretty much a North America versus Everyone Else standard.
Not all roads in Alaska use salt, just certain towns. In Anchorage it's just gravel that's thrown around. About 40 miles north of here, though, they use a bit of salt that moose like to lick off the cars... I'm one of the few that actually plans on driving my BRZ in the winter, so I plan on getting the underbody panel from Japanparts as soon as possible. I'm pretty sure Subaru made it more for aerodynamic reasons, but the extra protection never hurt no one. I was talking about it with my buddy last night, and he's more concerned with how much weight it might add. I reasoned that the weight could easily be offset by getting a lighter exhaust system and wheels. |

Automation Lighting LEDs were installed today. I'll snap pics later. Puddle lights are awesome!
