What is the point of this car?

The meaning of it? I know how its what we all perceive it as to be what truly matters, but what do you think it was truly made for? Drifting? Track days only? The weekend spirited drive?
I do not mean this only for the FRS, but for the GT86 and BRZ as well. Whats the point?

It's like my girlfriend. Nice and easygoing for the weekdays, and wild on weekends..

Ooooohhh, that's a loaded question! There are a few Tada-san interviews that might give you an idea of the original intent from the Chief Engineer himself.

I'll try to sum it up in my own words...

There's no specific 'event' that it was made for. It'll drift, it'll grip, and it'll carve up canyons. I think the point of this car was to reintroduce the desire to do all those things, in a world where most people can't sacrifice the time nor money to buy a modern performance car, or perhaps buy a car from the 80's or 90's and have to deal with the impracticality that older cars might involve.

It tries to incite the joy of driving, while trying to keep sacrifice to a minimum.

Idk if that makes sense, but that's it in a nutshell... :iono:

Pretty much hit the nail on the head. Entry level sports car. Nothing extravagant, all built to fit a certain budget. I honestly think of it as a MX-5 with a fixed top.

ahausheer 10-04-2012 10:36 PM

What's the point of an entry level sports car? Well, it is not meant for the track, that would be a harsher car like a Lotus or S2000 or higher end Porsche. The real focus was on handling and at the limit controllability, not power or speed. Its meant to be quick but not fast. I would argue it was meant for car enthusiasts who will almost never track it but may try to get it loose every now and then. It was meant for people who want a livable road car with decent mpg, that enjoy handling, feedback, and control, as opposed to acceleration. The affordable rear drive acceleration king is the mustang.

You have the best points so far.
It was clearly made for the auto enthusiastic, also made for the DIYers and modders. I mean, look how easy it is to change the oil, or how simple it is to change the exhaust.
