What will it actually be called?

I'm searching through the possible naming possibilities for the FT86 and simply can't go past the probability that it may actually be call the 2000GT.

Remember, the world loves "retro" cars, the original Toyota 2000GT was a landmark car for the brand that signaled a "new beginning".

Could it be?

No... The car already has a name. Its called the FRS and apparently the BRZ.

But since he is in singapore, I guess it will just be the toyota one?

I thought FT86 is the official name? xD....

Hounddub 09-27-2011 10:52 AM

Well.....I'm not so sure any more.

I know "Celica" has been tossed out as a possibility by a French Toyota Exec sometime last year. Though it could have just been something to misdirect info to keep people guessing.

Remember that the 86 logo is registred by toyota. And for info "Ft" is for "future toyota" so not possible as a commercial name

NA = FRS
Others = Still not known... til Nov 30th

I'm all for naming it something other than randomly selected letters. This is Subaru's baby as well, so I don't think they'd go for any names with strictly Toyota heritage. Same deal with Subaru, they can't really use any of their heritage names either.

I just don't understand why or where they lost the ability to create a new and inspiring, or exciting name. Where are my Cosmos, Fairladys, and Supras? Dodge at least has their naming down, they just fail to create cars that match their inspiring names like Caliber, Magnum, or Nitro.

I don't think they'll use 2000GT because this is not supposed to be a grand tourer. It's supposed to be a 2+2 sports car.

^^^^^
You are right, I can't remember anything that sounds remotely creative compare to Supras from japanese company for years.

It's just mostly boring numbers now. :iono: but on the contrary, I think FR-S is actually a cool name. :bellyroll:

Toyota FR86 sounds like the name to me. Front engine/RWD/86.

I like the 2000GT idea, MAYBE Celica (Though a Celica SHOULD have a GT4 variant!)
Other than that it needs to be a new name, as no other existing names fit (I'm discounting the concepts name FT-86 at that is a bit obvious :p)

Bring back the Carina. It's even a star cluster to kinda nod towards Subaru's involvement. Or the Tiara just to troll the hell out of any men looking at the car.

I would love to have a Tiara trailer queen :bellyroll:

I'm guessing it will be simply the '86'
