The be all end all Traction Control topic

When you deactivate TC completely by holding the button down for 5 seconds, does the light still flash when you spin the tires / lose grip?

THIS QUESTION IS FOR 6MT OWNERS ONLY

The light still flashes on mine.

Also, I need to test further but I think the TC system is still limiting how much freedom I have even when completely turned off.

Hi,

When the TC is held down for 5 seconds, there is no control from the TC anymore. Personally tested it at the circuit. You could drift, oversteer, spin and nothing will stop you. There is no form of correction from the car.

Stark difference compared with default mode (little slip) and VSC Sport (slightly more slip) when the TC is fully off (as much slip as you can generate).

I do not remember the lights flashing when its fully off.

Cheers

I took mine on a canyon run a couple weekends ago and do not recall that light flashing.

More importantly, do you feel the brakes applying when that happens? It's possible that the light is just to indicate slip, not that the TCS is in effect. I just swapped back to the stock rear swaybar after playing around with a 19mm STi bar. It was VERY noticeable when the system kicked in, regardless of the light. That bar made TCS work overtime! At first I thought my tires were rubbing, it's a nasty sound.

TCS Full off as indicated by two yellow lights on dash doesn't limit power or apply brakes.

The slip indicator does still flash, it...is indicating slip....of all things,

he didn't really explain what happens when you pull the fuse though, just went for a slide spun out and called it a day, lol

Yep, when you have traction control fully off the "slip indicator light" (that's what the manual calls it) still blinks to indicate loss of traction but the traction control does not intervene.

When I'm driving with out the assists on I never notice the slip indicator blinking because I'm too busy driving while looking out my passenger and driver side windows!

^^ This. I just know that after I turn it off (5 second hold), it TC doesn't intervene anymore.

Guess I never noticed it blinking because I didn't want to take the short route down the mountain!

Want to ressurect this topic to ask a question. I have a 2014 FRS. Stock. Noticed yesterday when just after starting the car, and doing to push-and-hold to turn all the TC things off, that when i spin the tires, the slip light still flashed. Later after the car had been driven a few minutes and again turned tc off, when id spin the rear tires, the light would NOT flash. Is this normal? Does operating temperature have anything to do with the light flashing when TC is supposedly off?

Look up threads on the "pedal dance" to understand what systems are still active when you turn off TC with the double button press.
