Hardrock4445 10-03-2012 08:47 PM

Doing the dash vent rings tonight. Then the rest of the silver pieces one at a time.

mezdup 10-03-2012 08:52 PM

surprised nobody thought about doing this before haha. i remember seeing threads where people were looking to trade interior panels with BRZ owners just to get the all black. this is much easier.

JPxM0Dz 10-03-2012 08:58 PM

Sorry for ignorance, but the phrase Plasti dip keeps popping up. What is it ?

Thanks ;)

Superhatch 10-03-2012 09:12 PM

How durable is plasti dip on a panel like this?

Plastidip is used for wheels and other exterior parts and it holds up pretty long.

Im sure it would be durable enough for an interior piece ;)

Hardrock4445 10-03-2012 10:12 PM

I did not sand it for easy removal if necessary. Only time will tell how long it will hold up. And if it doesn't. They pop out easy enough and can do again. I guess im the guinea pig on this one.

Google search plasti dip and you will find all you need to know.

ahausheer 10-03-2012 11:39 PM

Looks great. That silver is horrible.

F3dzo 10-03-2012 11:49 PM

How many coats? I want a smooth finish. How much time between coats also

dabocx 10-03-2012 11:52 PM

I might try out blue this weekend to match my ultramairne. Hopefully the blue my friend is giving me is a darker blue.

RallySport Direct 10-04-2012 12:34 AM

Wow I really like that, when the surface is prepped well, it always amazes me how good plastidip can look. Good job!

Rick

I did 6 coats about 20 minutes apart and let it cure over night. As you spray it, it looks very bad, will be shiny but it will even out as is dries.

RZ86 10-04-2012 09:34 AM

That's how the base model (86 GT) comes in Australia. I wasn't a fan, so I carbon fibre wrapped it.

Would be nice. we get a fake wanna be carbon fiber here. Was gonna hydro dip carbon pattern on it but like the plasti dip more.

Yeah same with the higher specced model, the GTS, receives the fake c/f here in Australia. Not a fan of that either tbh :P.

YourFearlessLeader 10-04-2012 12:22 PM

much cleaner look than stock. good job.

This may sound like a dumb question, but how did you remove the panels?

Start with the one around the radio. Find the seam at the bottom and it will pop out if you pry/pull w/a small screwdriver. It just snaps in. then once that is off, on the left side of the dash panel you can just grab with your fingers and just pop it off. Hope that helps

Hardrock4445 10-05-2012 10:02 AM

Shifter trim now done as well.

I like it.. The aluminum plastic stands out too much against the gray interior.. On mod list.. :D

CBR600RR 10-05-2012 02:06 PM

I'd be interested to see what all these pieces would look like dipped in red

any one car to be the first to try?

I'd rather someone else try it first

plasti-dip is $20+ per can up here in canada:bonk:

Turbowned 10-05-2012 03:52 PM

Ehhh, if you like it that's totally cool. Personally I think it makes the interior even less interesting. I don't like the silver trim or faux carbon fiber either, but it breaks up the monotony if nothing else. Plasti-dip was a good choice though, cause it can come right off if you want!
