They say it is an ECU flash but isn't it a ECU swap?

Guff 10-03-2012 03:26 PM

Hmmmmmm, just a reflash...

Is there a TSB yet?

Kevstra 10-03-2012 03:27 PM

I sure hope Subaru dealerships have the same flash. I don't want any issues when my baby gets here in two weeks!

It's not just a flash. The affected vehicles have a recall on their ecu's so they just replace it because it's probably easier to just put in the new ecu with the revisions rather than go through the trouble of creating a flash for it. I think it makes sense since they have to make the new version of the ecu's anyway for all newly built cars. That way all fr-s/Brz have the same exact ecu's

Word is that they're doing the flash at dealerships that have the equipment, else they swap.

There is no TSB as of yet, and the reflash has not yet been released to Subaru dealers as it is awaiting EPA & CARB approval. It will be a reflash, not an ECU replacement.

Cars that have already been "reflashed" have a temporary program that will need to be reflashed again once the final version is released.

It only will only affect certain VIN's as the updated program will already be installed in the newer production cars.

I wonder if the ecu reflash will be an issue for those who have bought the Ecutek tune.

i have yet to get my new ECU for my DRL's its been on back order for weeks now :(. i wonder if the new ECU will come flashed with this or not.

nice to see this tho. good to see they are working out the bugs of this first year vehicle. engine chirp will be fixed with fuel pump... they fixed my trunk popping noise and rattle in the shifter as well.

Yes...it will likely overwrite the Ecutek program.

You have to flash back to stock before bringing it in or the dealer won't be able to flash the ECU and they'll know something was done. After that, I would assume we need to wait for @Visconti and other tuners to get their hands on the new ROM so they can provide an updated flash.

We finally did one here so here is a correction on what I said above regarding the repair process...

Customer has CEL, we capture engine data for 5 minutes then perform the reflash and then capturer engine data for 5 miutes again and e-mail the file to SOA, they respond (usually within 10 minutes) and let us know if the data is good or bad. If it is good you are on your way...if it's still bad we order an ECU.

No CEL, we can't reflash.

Hope this helps!
