Clanking metal sound from rear!!!!
 

Hey guys, so I just got my car back from the dealer because they had to change my tires to the correct speed rating. There was Bridgestone Turanza EL400 which are V rated and not W rated. :mad0259:

Anyhows......There is now this slight clanking metal sound coming from the rear somewhere. At first I thought it was due to rocks hitting the exhaust but when coming to a stop, I hear a slight "clank" sound from the rear. I do not know where it is coming from! I am going to take it back to the dealer and have them fix this problem. Any suggestions as to what this sound might be?

CMOS - Sorry, I should have been a little more specific.

The noise only occurs at very low speeds, either coming to a stop or accelerating slowly (i.e. traffic) and comes from the passenger rear area. The sound actually gets louder when I roll down the window and is not a constant noise or even an instantanious noise (i.e. rolling over slight pot holes or small bumps at higher speeds). Therfore I can rule out majority of the suspension parts. What I assume the noise to be is, when the dealer was changing the tires, a "sticky" weight fell into the tire itself and now is rolling around and hitting the inside of the rim to make the "clanking" sound.

I will remove my tire later to see if I can replicate the sound by rolling it around. :iono:

Reviving an old thread to see if a solution was found. I am having the same exact issues as you are, but I HIGHLY doubt its the balancing weights.

You may wish to make sure the rear axle nuts are tight ..... ;)

I read some more threads, and found that the inner CV joints go bad as the car becomes lower. I found the answer I was looking for! Although it wasn't what I wanted to hear.

Started for me right now. Only makes the sound backing out of my garage or parking space and during the initial forward motion. Around town, nothing. Like the faint sound of two hollow metal bars clanking. I have to really focus to hear it tho. Can't find anything loose...

The culprit .. TPMS sensor broke and detatched.
