Smoke from new USA TRD exhaust

I just got the exhaust installed from my local stealership and after leaving the dealership someone else on the road told me there was alot of smoke coming from the exhaust.

I immediately pulled over called the dealership back and asked if this was normal or should I come back.. they told me dont worry its normal you just need to run the engine...

my question is, is it really normal for new exhausts to smoke like I dont have oil, AND it smelled like burning plastic...

My thoughts are an idiot mechanic didn't take out some of the bubble wrapping.. :sigh: help.

Sounds like you said... packaging wrap. If you can confirm it, get a new one at their cost.

I would imagine there is a lot of oil's on the metal from the bending process.. I wouldn't worry about it unless it doesn't go away in about 60 miles.

Yes it is normal for new exhausts to smoke a bit.

The packing in the muffler is causing the smoke. After a bunch of miles it will stop smoking.

Maybe the tips were wrapped in plastic to protect them and they forgot to take to off? If that was the case should be pretty obvious, melted plastic stands out pretty well against stainless steel...

And every aftermarket exhaust I have ever installed has smoked a little bit initially, oils from manufacturing process burning off.

I literally thought my car was on fire, other than that it sounds amazing...

Normal, my Perrin exhaust smelled and smoked something awful for the first 100 miles. I know for a fact that I did not leave any packing materials inside it ether. There is a lot of machining oils and residue left over inside a new exhaust from the manufacturing process, it's normal. The first 100 miles will consist of burning off and removing all those contaminants using the heat of the exhaust, it is a perfectly normal occurrence. It will also smell terrible for those first 100 miles too.

new exhaust smell is normal.
Smells like burning oil

Once broken in, no more or very little smell.
