Gauge mounting options

I did some searching and maybe was too vague, but I'm surprised I didn't find anything. If there's a thread out there already, feel free to point it out.

Is no one else frustrated with the lack of gauge pod placement? I really don't want a pillar pod, but I just don't see a nice spot that I like for 2-3 gauges. As much as I hate the stock NAV unit, I don't want to replace it for a gauge panel.

I have some leftover STRI gauges from my STi and while I won't be needing boost anytime soon, I would like to install Oil Temp, Oil Press, EGT gauges. I'm stoked that the oil galley plugs are both easy to reach. That was a bitch on my WRX and nearly made me commit suicide on my STi.

Has anyone already started playing with custom gauge pods? I know there are some talented 'glassers out there! One that I've seen a pic of (can't recall where) was three gauges on the passenger-side plastic dash trim clocked towards the driver. Looked cool, but also kind of far away. I want them in my line of sight.

I thought of little attached pods on either side of the cluster hood, but I think it'd look silly. Thoughts?

NOTE: this is not the place to discuss the necessity of gauges. I have them and I like using them. Just looking to brainstorm some ideas.

Let's have a picture up for brainstorming purposes...

Maybe fabbing up a little box that sits on the dash above the left AC vent?

Thanks for the pic. I have a feeling some will just go with the tried-and-true gauge in the AC vent approach, but I want to keep the cool air.

As for above, I wonder if that would have a negative affect on audio.

I'm not averse to steering column pods, but I don't want to lose sight of the cluster. Most I've seen stick up too far.

Overhead by the mic. I saw something like that in a mazda. A pod that can hold 3 gauges.

One of the catalogs from Japan shows guages in a replacement panel over the glovebox.

I think a pod that goes on the dash something like these will be developed.

Here's the one I was talking about. I only see a RHD model at this time.

I had one of these in my STi hatch (from Mach V). But that car had loads of room up there even with the mirror at full height. This car has no space for it.

I sure hope so. I just hope it doesn't look terrible like the 08+ Impreza options. The only one I saw that looked any good was part of an alcantara dash wrap (JPM Coachworks). The 02-07 models really had it easy with the removable clock section!

That's what I had seen! The thing I don't like is that it's on the other side of the car. This would probably be my fall-back if I don't see or come up with something better.

Thanks for the replies/ideas, keep them coming!
