Satellite Issue -Factory GPS & Media unit

Has anyone that owns a BRZ Limited or 86 GTS experience this with their navigation system?

I've been having this for a while, Sometimes i get a lock on my location and most times i don't. My cursor just bounces around the map and it'll say "Searching for Satellites" for ages and rarely locks. Not only that sometimes when it does lock on to my position, it'll say "Traffic jam ahead" and i'm like "WHERE!?!?! THERE'S NO TRAFFIC JAM!?!?!"

Seems like Peeps from the US are getting this with their BRZs as well.

:mad0259: gonna find a Toyota garage and see if they have a patch or something for this. But then again looks like a hardware issue.

It happens to me rarely. Once a week or so it will say "GPS signal lost". In about 10 minutes it's fine again.

never have problem with mine.

are you using any shark fin/short antenna? i'm still with original antenna.

On my drive home from the dealership I was constantly getting "Traffic Jam Ahead". Haven't played with Sat Nav since but I will watch for it.

I'm using a shark fin. The reception has taken a small hit, but nothing too serious.

I'm using original antenna.

i've figured out how to get into Diagnostic mode on the system last night. it took a while this morning but it worked well. will try again after work, my Longitude is moving therefore it is tracking me fine. just the Navigation software is playing up i think....

fyi (at your own risk) - to get into diagnostic mode press and hold [MAP] [voice] [AUDIO] then you'll hear 3 beeps.

To get out of the Diagnostic mode, press down and hold the volume knob till the screen resets with "TOYOTA" intro screen. :D

OK! So.... Toyota Service called me back like 5mins ago, they said

"The GPS on the 86 takes around 15 to 30mins to find satellites and lock it's position. It also depends on the weather too, so for example today is cloudy and raining it'll take longer to lock. My boss have the same system as you do, so his experiencing the same thing. Its not a malfunction it's completely normal, however i have recorded you down, just in case this happens again."

WTF 15 - 30 minutes??? are they serious???? should they really say 15-30 seconds??

or more realistically 3 minutes?

Coming from a development background, 15-30 minutes is not an acceptable time frame for normal, everyday use. I'm not sure if they expect you to swallow that answer, but I would ask them if they expected me to sit and wait in my car for 30 minutes before starting my trip. And if that sounded like something an average person would do.

I've got a 4 year old Mio which locks on after about 30 sec, especially outside.

The GPS antenna is behind the audio unit, on top of the dash reinforcement panel. If you want, ask the dealer to confirm (@ next service) the antenna location matches where it should be, plus that the foil adhesive base is completely flat (not wrapped around anything).

When I first got mine I had no GPS signal, took it back to the dealer and they had to reposition the antenna behind the head unit. Works everytime now within 30 seconds of starting.
