That was a gr8 review from Fifth Gear!

I do wish it had a little more umph in 3rd. I have fond memories of flogging my RSX Type-S around in 3rd and all of my MX-5s.

Where can I find the spoiler the GT86 has in the video?

Monkey_Boy 10-08-2012 12:55 PM

That's the factory spoiler. In the US, it only comes on the BRZ Limited. I am not terribly fond of it, myself, and would rather have that TRD duckbill or the Five axis version.

You would probably find people who'd do a Subaru trunk swap to get that spoiler to you, depending on the color of your Scion.

Why would u add more drag with any spoiler?

Factory spoiler actually reduces drag.
I still don't like it.

Preferably without spoiler or maybe Tamon, if it covers up t he holes from the standard (scandinavia) spoiler.

Great review. He seemed very unbiased. Criticized a bit for 3rd gear torque, but praised it a ton for fun, handling, drifting.

its funny in UK MX5 is cheaper than the 86, but in australia its 10k more expensive.

it is good that he goes on about wanting more power though. means we might see a higher powered version.

Clarkson is going to put on a sweeeeeet show with this car....

Personally, I've found what I feel to be the most effective way to make use of the twin's twin torque peaks (AKA the reason for the torque dip).

When I want to flog it I'll do it but when I want to just cruise around town I'll up-shift rather than down-shift. It keeps the car a quiet and pleasant place to be but it actually has the balls to get going a heck of a lot better when you give it some gas between 2-2.5k RPMS rather than at 3.5-4k (the middle of the 'dip').
