FT86 Convertible? Future Toyota models?

Do you think there is a possibility of a convertible being released? If so, would you buy it? What do you think is the possibility of a future Supra or Celica looks like? I once read from a member that a true supra would cost $90,000 if Toyota ever made it but I don't think so. If you look at the Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger, they have the same concept. Maximum performance for minimum price. The Supra is basically that only better handling and less straight line performance. Instead of a V8 its got a 6cyl Turbo, ECT. People underestimate Toyota engineering. I mean sure the Nissan GT-R has like 500something horsepower but seriously 400-ish is enough for a supra. The only problem I see is with people cross-shopping with the Lexus Is-F. RWD 400hp performance car but it's not likely.

:sigh:Here we go.

I think a convertible would defeat the purpose of this car completely and I personally would rather they not make one for the simple fact that it'll attract 16-year-old chicks and I want this car to stay as an enthusiast car with some mainstream buyers just so it stays in production.

No, way, as sadi before it defeats the purpose of the car. But we could see some Lexus Supra. Would love if they just chopped off two cylinders from the LF-A V10, but the some say the FT-86 is the last NA sportscar. The Supra would get turbo.

*disclaimer: I am not an economist*

The price would very much depend on the relative strength of the Dollar vs. the Yen, which right now is the worst it has ever been. The only time in history that the exchange rate was anywhere near as bad was in 1995, when a Supra TT w/ 6spd had an msrp of $49,900. In 2011 money, that's $74,200. Given that the current exchange rate is 10% worse than it was in 1995, an equivalent car built today could reasonably be expected to cost $81,600 or more.

Now I'm not so foolish as to think Toyota would actually build such an expensive car. It would be directly competing against the GTR, and would need to beat the it around the Nurburgring to get any credit at all. Such a car would stomp all over the toes of the LF-A however, so let's face it, that ain't going to happen. A rival for the 370Z/Camaro/Mustang is much more likely, but would not be a "true Supra" in the eyes of the anonymous fanboy you mentioned.

I never said the person was a fanboy...I just thought that their calculations were kinda off (and $90,000 for a supra makes me cry....) but now that you mention it that actually makes sense. Its sad but I always considered the supra a competitor to the Z car than the GT-R. They could surprise us and make it compete with both? N/A V6 version competes with 370z and Twin Turbo V6 version competes with the GT-R (not exactaly but you know, close).

:thanks:

I've been saying the same thing. It could be $45,000 instead considering a Mustang GT 5.0/370Z is $33,000 with a sport package.

The only thing that separates a Supra from the Z is the Twin Turbo 6 cylinder engine. Everything else is pretty much similar. As a matter of fact there was also a N/A weak output Supra so these guys is just putting the car on this invisible pedestal. I'm not saying it wasn't a great car either.

Sure, there's a possibility for a convertible, but I wouldn't buy it...

okay, I might buy it. ;)

Never really cared for the Supra, and I'm with the crowd that thinks even if they brought it back, it'd be ridiculously overpriced. I wouldn't mind a new Celica, but only if it were badass like it used to be - RWD or 4WD.
