how do you guys drive your car?

I notice that this car has alot of issues..both minor and major. I was wondering how you guys treated the break-in period. Most people are following it, but are they the ones still having problems, or is it the ones who went hard since day one?

I was wondering this too. I followed the proper break-in procedure and have no problems (other then the chirping). Got around 3300 miles now.

Still at 860 miles here, so too early to tell, but I've kept it under 4K for the first 500, ventured into the 4K's through 750, now I've ventured into the 5k's. Never for prolonged WOT, just short bursts during spirited acceleration and only when the engine's been warmed up. Holding off on redline until 1K - mostly because I haven't had a need, but secondarily because I'm old school and just want to take it easy until I've replaced my oil after break-in.

Why isn't there an option between the 2 listed? I didn't baby it, but I didn't drive it like a track car either.

I drove it normal, shifting any where between 4-6k RPM. I'd occasionally jump on it, but nothing too harsh. There is no way I could have kept it under 4k. Unfortunately, I have no idea what option to pick from above...since I did neither.

...and yes, I still got the famous CEL.

I didn't beat the shit out of it but it saw 6.5k rpms several times. I'll be doing a 1k mile oil change tomorrow with OEM filter and Amsoil Signature.

I took it easy for the first 1,000 miles and the only problem I have is chirping, which is being fixed by the dealership in a couple of weeks.

I followed the rules during the break-in period. I figure the people who wrote the owners manual know a little more about this than I do.

My break in drive was 950miles.
It was driven hard from time to time.
Not being to easy on her.
Still driven hard, almost daily.
I definitely let it rev out (not bounce).
Oil changed to Redline at 1,050miles
No problems as of 2,000+miles.

Chirping from the pump? Didn't know they had a fix yet.
I suppose its a part in the high pressure pump, no?
Mine chirps at idle, from time to time.

I set my shift light and beeper at 4k during the break-in period so I wouldn't accidentally over-rev for the first 1000 miles and actually took a proactive approach towards the rattles that people have complained about - foam tape behind license plate, 3M tape on all those white clips in the spare tire area - and as of now, I have absolutely no rattles, squeaks, or problems with my car other that the occasional engine chirping. The chirp shows up every once in a while (I didn't think it was something that comes and goes) but it doesn't annoy me. When Subaru releases a TSB like toyota did and I hear that it is successfully fixing the noise, I'll take mine in - Anyway, I love my BRZ and
I hope I didn't just jinx myself!

I agree with Temecal. I need an option between the ones available.

I mostly stayed under 4k revs for the first few hundred miles. After that, I'm pretty sure I saw the north end of 6k at least ones a day.

So far no issues, knock on wood.

Grishbok 10-01-2012 12:45 AM

Followed break in procedure...mostly, reved up to redline once or twice.

During normal trips to the store, usually shift about 4-4.5k taking it relatively easy on the motor, but letting it wind up just enough to get things moving.

I work outrageous hours, so when Im finally off work, I let the car warm up and drift it out of the work complex damn near all the way home. Typically hitting around 6-7k and touching redline.

Hypermiling since delivery, few dozen hard pulls after first 1000, idle warmup before each journey and water warmup before exceeding 2k (can't touch the oil since in their infinite wisdom they gave me 2 speedos and no oil pressure gauge), does not change the fact that engine is twitching worse at idle then last few cars after warranty expired (this is without the idle dip). Also lifter noise in cabin which I choose to believe is DI.

Went easy for the first 500 miles, then have driven "spirited" ever since. First oil change at 4500 miles no problems so far

Awesome poll idea. I kept mine under 4k except for a few runs up to 6k. Maybe 4 at most. CEL and Idle issue at 850 miles.
