CEL came on, and I got it on video!

4500kms and my car was running like crap tonight so I thought I would video for proof of issue. Well lo and behold after 5 mins of video the CEL came on! Just today the dealership said the idle dip was normal. I told the shop foreman that no, the car was NOT running right and NEVER has in the 4 months I have had it.

I'll post the video soon and link from this thread

Here is the video link, shortened so not to bore you too much :) It will need a bit more time for vimeo to process it.

Frick I wonder if I dare drive it or get stranded at the McDonalds drive thru.......

The link displays a page not found error, buddy. Claiming it hasnt been running right for 4 months since you got it will only prompt the question "why didnt you bring it then?" question from the dealer. So I would recommend leaving that part out. What you can and should do, is show them the video with the cel, see if they can scan for any stored codes and go from there. If they do find codes, theyll be able to troubleshoot from there. Being upset and confrontational wont get you far with dealers service.

I did bring it in, 3 times in the past 4 months including today. I have been in contact with the dealership asking them to log in their system every single time the car had problems since I had no CEL yet. So yes, I have done everything I can to let them know the car is having issues.

Like I said, it won't be ready for probably 30 minutes yet. Patience.

well, if you bring it to them with codes stored and the cel on, and they still dont do anything, try a different dealership. Its hard for technicians to fix something they can't see/experience right in front of them, so give em the benefit of the doubt.

Can you try uploading the video to youtube? That link is still broken.

The link is good, vid is ready now.
I'll call roadside in the morning to get it picked up. Or if it's behaving better in the morning I'll try to drive it to the dealership.

I've driven my car since day 1 with the CEL and felt like the car was under powered. Brought it to the dealer 3 times and they've basically told me to wait.

Last week I decided to clear the CEL by disconnecting the battery for a about 5 minutes. Drove it for 10 minutes and felt like the car woke up from the dead. I was doing donuts and sliding everywhere (couldnt do this with the CEL). CEL obviously came back after 10 minutes, but I can't wait to get it fixed.

After you bring it to the dealer, and if they leave you with the light on.. Try disconnecting the battery and try it afterwards. Let us know if you feel a difference in power..

Mine has been feeling underpowered for quite a while. I am surprised your dealer didn't give you a loaner. I have loss of use insurance on my car, but that may only be valid if it's in an accident. I had also phoned Toyota today to ask about when repairs would be coming, they couldn't give me any info. Some case manager has my file, but never called me back. I'm going to send them an email.

Definite candidate for the cel fix. Hand it to the dealer, theyll be able to pull the code and get you some working parts.

I'm at the point I don't care about the FR-S and I don't want to own this problem child. When I'm handed the keys to a 4Runner TE then I will be happy.

im sorry you choose to see it that way. I wish you the best of luck in acquiring a 4Runner never been a fan of them personally. I think you may be able to work out a deal with the dealership and scion customer service for a trade, but you must let them try to fix the car first. If they fail to fix it, then that becomes a reasonable option to talk about. The worst that could happen by letting them try, is they actually fix the problem and you end up with the car you originally wanted to buy. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

I had a 4Runner and traded it for the FR-S. I've been regretting that trade for quite a while now. There are just too many little things in the FR-S which scream 'cheap!' like the sun visors for example. Mine unhook almost every time I fold them down. Unlike other Scion cars, there is no bushing on the part that snaps into the holder. Sooner or later I bet there's a TSB on that too.

lol, i got nothing for that man. Seems like you are actively looking for things to complain about, the car was not designed, built, or even conceived for people that are concerned about the bushings on a sunvisor. This car.. its not for you. Why on earth did you bother buying the car?

The way i see it is they cheaped out on the non-important parts so they can put more money towards the more important parts of the car that matter to us..
