In forty years we haven't managed to shed weight? You know we have a problem when we consider 3000 lbs light. It seems that the baseline has shifted and today we consider 3300 lbs an acceptable weight for a sports coupe

i completely agree, and also possibly safer from less mass smashing into something..
i owned a slow, lumbering volvo 240; the doors slammed like some tank hatch closing, it had an iron bottom end, and nothing about it resounded with the words lightweight...it came in at 3000 lbs curb...i honestly don't know why new cars weigh so damn much, i find it hard to believe it all comes down to crumple zones and safety features tho; this car was and maybe still is one of the safest cars out there in that weight class...
