DIY Cusco Spin Turn Knob Installation - Video Guide
Here is a short and quick video I made while doing this. Sorry that it's not as in dept, but this explains and covers pretty much all you need to know to figure it out. Also it was a little hard to do this with one hand and record with the other, so that's what it doesn't completely show me doing everything.
Q:You may be asking yourself, what is a spin turn knob or "drift button?" A: Well these replace the button on your e-brake allowing you to depress the button and the E-brake will always release when you let go of the handle. This means that instead of having to thumb the button to release the brake you are able to simply yank up and let go. Q:Well, how do you lock it? A:Simple. You just push the flat tab up with you thumb and pull it up or pull it up first, then pull the tab outwards. This will lock the ebrake and you can park with it up. Push the button in, like you would with your stock button when you need to release it. This install only requires your hands, but optional tools can be used if necessary. Install can be done as quickly as in 10 min. looks good. what exactly does the new button do over the old button?
since spring is removed, I assume you can pull on it to drift without the handle locking. do you just push out on the lip of the new button when you want to park/lock the handle? |

I didn't think about it at the time, but I noticed that if you are ebrake drifting, your day light runners will turn off and on, hahaha. Since normally, when the parking break is up, they turn off and turn on upon release. :P

Not sure if you noted this in your video, but using a blow dryer to heat up the ebrake handle would definitely simplify removal ;)

Was just gifted a red knob yesterday. I'll try to post pics after I install, probably during lunch.

You can get the handle cover off by hand, but I had to use pliers for the chrome-treated button. It wouldn't spin for anything with just finger grips. The button sticks out much further than I'd like and it's very loose-fitting, so it rattles when you purposely move it. I'm sure it'll be fine in everyday use. It's pretty cool to be able to lift up and down freely! Thanks for this thread! |
Just want to point out here that you don't need to remove the handbrake grip or handbrake boot to do this. I've seen a number of videos where they do this and I can't seem to tell why. I installed mine last week by simply twisting off the old knob and spring, and twisting on the new knob. The rest of the handbrake stayed in tact the whole time.
