Jaguar F-Type

An overly aggressive Miata? New Camaro convertible? Shrunk down XK8? I do believe those headlights were taken directly from a 350Z.
...sorry, I'm not sure what you're suggesting here. (And shouldn't this be in the "other cars" section?) :iono: Edit: Also? Eww... Waited so, so long for them to finally build this car, and this is what they came up with? Oh Jaguar, what happened to you... :( |
It's not bad, but doesn't really stand out as a Jag. But then again neither does their xf. Jaguar seems to be redesigning their cars one at a time to blend in with everything else on the road.
I'm not sure of the pricing on this, but I did read it's automatic only. I lost interest at that point. I wasn't going to look at them new anyway. Jag resale values drop like stones. If they were both priced the same and I had the money for a car like this, there's no way I would choose this over an Aston Martin Vantage. -Justin |
I've owned a couple of XK's in my time: a 2001 XK8 convertible and a 2007 XKR convertible (both dark red w/ tan or cream colored interiors). Yeah, they hold value like a colander holds water... but GOD they were a blast to drive! Just going to 7-11 felt like an occasion in those cars.
Astons... I'm torn on. Back in the late 90's, early aughts, I'd say you got what you paid for with Aston Martin: a grand-tourer that was the pinnacle of luxury and speed. LOVED the DB7. Lately though? Meh.... While they've still got Jag beat in the exterior looks department, their modern interiors are so bland and lifeless as to make their closest competitor some company like Kia (okay, okay... the DB9 is okay; but the Vantage is just horrible). And the 2007+ XKR's will do 99.9% of what any Aston will do, performance-wise, but at nearly half the price. Guess I was hoping for a Boxster/ Z4 competitor from Jaguar... a resurrected E-Type, a true driving enthusiast's car... but instead it looks like we're getting another first-gen Merc SLK. <sigh> So far, Tata Motors is making Ford's ownership look like the glory days. :( |
I know. Who would have thought we'd be nostalgic for the Ford era.
I love the xk, and I was hoping this would be a slightly scaled-down but distinctly Jag version of the xk. I was bought my Miata used in 2007, and at that time I could have bought a same year/mileage xk convertible. That's how I learned about their residual value. I would love an xk, but it's a bit too big for my garage. Well, it's not a production model yet so there's still some hope. -Justin |
looks like a convertible fiskar karma

Still not digging the Veilside-surprised-Asian-catfish front-end looks, but this article makes it sound like it won't suck too bad in the performance department. And they're now claiming a manual transmission is confirmed (though I wonder if it'll be a true manual, or a double-clutch gearbox sort of thing. Surprised they're bothering with either, since the automatic is apparently an 8-speed! :confused0068: )

Amazing design, but doesn't look like a Jaguar. But you know what? I wouldn't care. The FR-S doesn't look like a Scion, or a Subaru, and hardly follows any modern Toyota design language. The FR-S was designed using cues from older models, implemented in a modern fashion.

I'm pretty sure the Lexus ISF uses an 8speed auto. For a car like this, I would only want a true manual gearbox. But I won't be buying one new so Jag doesn't have to pay any attention to what I want.

Put a real roof on it and I can see the design coming to life a bit.
