Thinking about cancelling...
I ordered my GTS 6speed back on the 6th of June. I've called my dealer numerous times but they still don't have an allocation for me. Best case scenario is I receive my car in 3 months. I'm a little bit over the hype now and I still love the look of the car but fear I may get sick of it fairly quickly as I've always had fairly powerful cars. Turbo is an option but there are issues there with warranty and resale etc.
Long story short, I'm thinking of cancelling. Do I have the right to my deposit being refunded or not? |
If theres a long wait list at the dealer you ordered from, i don't see why they wouldnt return your deposit. I don't see them having a hard time finding another buyer.
|
Yeah you do. I'm on the same fence man. Been working on my Supra lately and falling back in love with it! Maybe I should just put another 40 grand into her?
Would be much cooler to see a couple of turbo 86's tearing it up though. |
The deposits are refundable.
|
Because they're no longer delivering what you had put your deposit down for (ie the spare wheel) you can get a full refund.
Also because of the delay in shipment. |
I just got my gts 3 days ago... Ordered in March. There was no way I was going to Cancel.
You have to keep in mind the extra allocations coming through. Just keep hassling the dealer... You will get your deposit back easy. If you have any issues, just say im cancelling due to no full size spare. |
Cancelling will be the biggest mistake! Its worth every day/month
|
You should be able to get your deposit back pretty easily. Personally I wouldn't cancel. But not having any definite delivery date would suck dog balls. Maybe go take one for a test drive again and see if you still like the feel of the car enough to hold on?
|
cancelling is probably that smartest decision i made, hell if ima wait 18 months for something I preordered before pricing was even released... much better cars out there.

But its really hard not to like the car. Unless the person is someone that only wants power. :burnrubber: |

im toing and froing currently. I actually test drove an Evo 10 yesterday and have tried to organise a test drive for an STi also. I figured for another 10-15K I can get something pretty ballsy, however they are different cars. It was nice to see the BRZ and the STi side by side at the dealership. One has all of the looks and feel of a pure sports car, the other has balls.
Then i went back to my 86 pics archive and it reignited my want. I think ill stick with it, put my work kiwamis on, lower it and be happy given than I have a track car in the shed already. Turbo would be the logical option if the power ever gets boring I guess. |
I love my FR-S, but I think I may dislike car dealers more. I don't trust them at all. If I were waiting on a high-demand car like this, I'd be convinced that the dealer was just stringing me along and would sell the car out from under me if it landed on the lot before someone called me to pick it up.
It happens ALL the time here in the US. I don't know if your dealers are more honorable. I haven't heard it happening with an 86 yet, but they're not really in short supply over here. The only people who can't get one are unwilling to travel out of their neighborhood to pick one up. I think it's a great car and worth its price. I don't think it's worth it's price plus a year of dealership bs. I also think the 2014 model will be at least as good. Let's hope they have the delivery issues sorted by then. -Justin |

I almost had this experience. My dealer was prepping my 1st86 car for display and sale on the showroom floor the day they received it, claiming mine was coming 10 days later. Had I not stopped by on that day and seen it, they would have sold it. They claim it is the info Southeast Toyota regional HQ told them, but quickly changed their tune when I started to call Scion HQ from their phone. |
