afe takeda intake installed *updade need help*

I have had it for about a week and finnaly got the time to install it. Removing the stock intake ducting or whatever it's called was a bit of a pain. But the overall install went well. Pro tip for everyone. Dont drop your screwdriver because it was a pain to retive it without e z acces to removing the under panel :)

I decided to keep the sound tube just because I did not feel like taking the time to remove it. But I did not drill the hole for the sound tube portion of the housing. My girl has not been happy with how loud her Agency Power muffler drones in the 4-5k rpm range. So we wanted to see how keeping the tube blocked would help. I don’t know if it is a result of the intake alone or the sound tube. But the droning has subsided a lot. You can defiantly feel some extra power now. Not so much at the high end, but quite a bit in the mid RPM range. If I stomp on the gas about 5k I can hear the motor making a little bit more growl and feel a little more vibration in the pedal. Very surprisingly and unlike intakes I have had on other cars, there is no bogging and throttle is very smooth now, as appose to jerky. We are both extremely imprested with this intake and I will be taking it to my shop on Monday for a dyno run.

Also we did not do a computer reset or anything. With any luck we will see even more improvements of the next couple of days. :D

UPDATE
same as post on bottom of thread

Finally got the dyno done today and I am loosing massive power. I am loosing 6hp over stock and about 12 with my exhaust. We took everything off to see if i had something stuck on the filter or in the box and all was clear. I never reset the ECU after my install. I am going to leave the battery off tonight and see if resting it helps. gonna redyno it next Monday otherwise i have no clue whats going on.
I guess the power i thought it had was just the difference of me driving it around with only 1 person in the car. sense i never drive the thing i have no clue if had missing power the whole time or not. Or it cold be just because there is crap gas in it.

Here's mine. After I installed it I started dressing up my engine.

Lame for u not gettin the little man, my girl loves the guy and already put hers on.
My front bolt/washer likes to not grab on to the intake, i think i need a bigger washer or something. and I love that blue on the intake manifold cover.

TouchMyHonda 09-29-2012 11:29 PM

In for dyno.

Did you reuse the stock rubber grommets with metal inserts on the two mounting points of the intake?

2forme 09-30-2012 01:33 AM

I'd be intrigued to see if you make any gains on it. I didn't until I was up at 200whp with e85. Good luck!

It's an SAA part (Subaru's OEM accessories division). Got it here.

I would put the stock intake back on and focus on why you are losing power with the AP exhaust. Once that's figured out, you can try and put the Afe intake back on.

I guess it is possible. But I initially gained power with my exhaust. Then after the intake was put on I lost power. but maybe you are right and something is messed up. When my GF get home ill lift it up and take a quick look and see if something is bent or loose.

167hp 134Tq was my base. The best I got with exhaust was 173hp 141Tq. Now I am all the way down to 159hp 134Tq :(

Drift-Office 12-04-2012 01:29 AM

Power isn't stackable on the mods, and just because you made more power with the exhaust doesn't mean that adding an intake will 'stack' on top of that.

However, 159 is pretty low, and do you have the before and after dyno charts for comparison?

I know it is not stable. :) I just not sure why i would be loosing power with after my intake was installed. Even without doing a ECU reset :(
I disconnected the battery for an hour then went for a drive. The car seems a little more punchy and seems to have a more throaty tone to it. i guess ill see what the dyno next Monday says about it.

Here is the dyno comparison between all stock and my best agency power exhaust runs.
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8034/7...241c0925_h.jpg

My guys mistakenly added my 3rd best exhaust run VS my intake and exhaustrun also note that little jump at the beginning of they dyno was just a oddity in this particular run, we did 4 pulls today and this is the only one with that jump. I don't know why i did not think to just disconnected my battery to reset the ECU while i was at the shop.
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8069/8...19b1ce4b_h.jpg

On the side how long should i disconnected it for to reset it anyhow.

Thanks for looking at my issue :)

Crossover Auto 12-04-2012 06:12 AM

Do you have a log of your Air/Fuel ratio with the dyno?
I know from one car I tested, it ran rich and lost power after a catback was installed.

no the AFR was not read.
if I'm still having problems after my ECU reset on Monday when I get my next dyno ill see about hookin one up. I don't know if the air fuel ratio is just something that can be read from the OBD 2 or if I need to make a bung to install an AFR sensor. I'll ask my guy on Monday.

Usually dyno places have a clip in sensor that they put in your exhaust tip. I would def get that read. Running too rich or too lean is never good for a motor.

Does AFE make a sound tube delete version?

It's default config is a sound tube delete.

clayrush 12-05-2012 04:53 PM

yeah it's actually blocked, but I left the tube on there because to lazy to take it off. I just started reading about the FA20club tune i was interesting in buying it. I just now started reading up on it for the first time. is there something else i need to buy or do I just buy the program? and also how does the reflash work if I go to get smog test in California. is it easily put back to stock mode if I need to go in

TRD_86 12-12-2012 03:57 PM

what is the HP and TQ gain over the stock ?

BlueBrzKenny 12-04-2015 05:33 PM

Hey did you remove the snorkel from inside the bumper by any chance ? I installed my aFe intake with the snorkel on and after a month removed the snorkel and noticed a change in engine tone and punch.

I don't understand anything of this.

I've drilled the aFe intake on the sound tube section to keep the sound tube working like explained in the insctructions.

@Mr.Impreza Like every strut bar, did not feel anything :P

jasonojordan 05-06-2016 11:41 AM

Did you ever figure out what was causing your power loss? There is a used intake of the same one you had local to me for $150. I am already just running a drop in k&n panel filter.

clayrush 05-06-2016 10:24 PM

I have a new intake as well!
https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7567/...44d97531_k.jpg

But Yeah I think my loss of power was tune related.

It's probably the intake messing things up without a proper tune.
