UK Price range £25-£32k!?

Just popped into the dealers at lunch time. The guy was clueless when I asked him about any info on the FT86 and he duly looked it up on the intranet/ dealers Guild.

He came back to say it will cost £25k to 32k..!!

How is that affordable? In the UK that's close to Subaru STI money, even then 370Z starts at £29k!

I understand the pain....

Def not what they promised of an affordable car... its really affordable to rich people... not to the avg people.

i'll just write it off as you dealing with a moronic/greedy dealer that will upcharge the hell out of it

Dealers in the UK don't have mark ups quite the same way as you guys have in the US..

Indeed it is painful... that is Lexus IS250 money!

Just a salesman who hadnt a clue and was keen to get rid of you so he could concentrate on a granny wanting a. Hatchback with all the extras and no discount

My guess 25k to start with

I'm fairly alarmed that Car and Driver reported (in last month's issue that I'm just now reading) that the FR-S's base price will be $28,000 (USD).

Maybe alarmed isn't the right word. Either way, if that's even close to true I'm not buying this car. Hell I probably won't even bother to test drive it.

That's because you already pay relatively more for cars than we do. :bellyroll:

25k Pounds would be over $30k here... Hopefully he pulled up the wrong numbers :iono:.

Ask yourself... can they possibly sell this car for more than a base WRX? If they do it's suicide.

The problem with the Canadian market is that Subaru hates us. They think it's fair that the WRX base is over $8000 more here than in the US... ASSHOLES!

Fortunately Scion only marks up their cars $1500 for the Canadian market, I expect $2000 more than the same FR-S in the US.

The car will fail at that price. A nicely equipped one for 25k from Subaru would still be a fair deal IMO. 28k, 30k etc is way too high for what the car offers IMO.

Agree 100%. Only bummer is that it's been said that the Scion will be the less-equipped brand and I refuse to buy a Subaru. I love my options, my leather, I know there are things that you just can't get from a Scion like auto-climate control but I do want some amentities...

You are right on target with my fear as well. I am not as against getting a Subaru, but I am afraid that in the end my choices will come down to:
1. Awesome exterior design with inability to add the amenities I want or
2. Nice factory upgrades, but on the wrong exterior design.

My hope is they offer both models for a reasonable base, so those who want to get in, can, with the ability to add tons of options on both models.

May be asking for too much.

Neutral_Eyes 09-21-2011 07:41 PM

Hard to tell if it's overpriced when we still don't know exactly what we're getting.

KAuss 09-21-2011 08:19 PM

I know what'll be overpriced because I'm not trying to buy a Supra... I'm still saying the car has to start at 22K - 23K... Top out at 25K or else I'm out... (USD)

If they put 300 hp (I know not possible) in this thing to price it at 32K, then they're doing it all wrong... This is not a car I'm looking for even if the asking price is fair... Even official word is they're trying to take the cd player out of this car... THAT is what I'm looking for, for them to cut as many things out to get me a car that's fun to drive and keep expenses low...

This is suppose to be the Hachiroku reborn... They can save the 25K - 30K price point for a new Celica, and the 30K - 40K price point for a Supra... I'm looking at < 25K or else I'm out... I would seriously get a WRX 5 door hatch again for that money, I've owned one before and it's not going to be beat at the 25K segment... The only way it can is if they make a light weight rwd sports car priced at or under it...

The only thing I need / want would be HID lights...

Andy 09-21-2011 08:26 PM

Well, as 25,000.00 GBP = 38,759.18 USD I really do hope WE in the UK get a fair deal!

If USA gets it for 25,000.00 USD = 16,125.23 GBPI want that price in the UK :p
