Custom Plates - Ontario

So my car came with regular plates, and I ordered custom plates that showed up on Monday.

What do I need to do before I can throw bolt them on to the car? I've looked all over the MTO and Service Ontario websites and I can't find a lick of information on what you're supposed to do.

Halp, and thanks in advance!

not sure if troll, who did you order your custom plates from? You can't just buy a plate and slap it on.

you have to buy your plate through the MTO and subsequently register the plate like you would with any other car.

I have customized plates. You take your current non-customized plates with your new customized plates to a permit/licensing-issuing Service Ontario office. They will have you fill out the paperwork that returns your unwanted plates and affixes a new validation tag to your new plates.

It takes all of 10 mins to do. Once you have new validation tags on your new plates, you can rock them. I literally took off the plates in the parking lot and went into the Service Ontario office, and walked out with validation-tags on my custom plates!

Well, I bought the plate from some guy who makes them in his truck... Was like 20% of the MTO price, seems legit.

^ That's trolling. ;)

Nah, I ordered a custom plate from the MTO and I was trying to find out what paperwork I need to fill out to be allowed to swap the plates. The MTO/SO were entirely unhelpful in this matter, so I wanted to see if anyone had any experience with it. :D

Photoshop?

I was going to get plates that said "BORN IN", because I was going to rebadge the -86- side badge where the rear Scion logo is, so it would essentially be born in 86 (my birthyear).

FT86 is a cool plate :)

I just went through something like this today (only transferring custom plates from my dad's ownership to mine to put on my car). You need to go to Service Ontario, then have them switch the plates. Make sure to bring your ownership, including the plate portion, driver's license and I assume you have some documentation that you own the new customized plates as well.

This. It's basically what I had to do when I got the plates for my Mustang. If I remember right, I also had to give up the old plates to avoid having to pay for a new sticker.

FT86 is cool. Was that your first choice? After buying my Mustang, I took a bit of ribbing for buying a V6. I got tired of the "why didn't you get a V8?" question, so I installed a supercharger and ordered up these plates...

My first thought was 86... I figured that one would be gone. I wonder if anyone in Ontario has TOYOBARU.
