Those of you who have placed an order for an FR-S

Hi all,

I was planning to place an order for my FR-S sometime this week. All of the Toyota / Scion dealerships here in Austin are bone dry. From what most places are telling me it takes 6-8 weeks for the car to come in after you place an order.

For those of ya'll who had to place an order, how long did you have to wait until the car arrived at the dealership? It seems as if the general consensus I've gotten through reading is that it can take a lot longer...which I'm really hoping is not the case...

This has been covered.

oh and yes, 6-8 weeks seems to be the reality of time taken from order to delivery.

I have one shipping in from NY. An almost painless process. Just takes longer than it should.

Toyota is not taking any sold orders for the FR-S. That means the dealership cannot actually guarantee any time frames. How the process works is, a dealer is allocated an FR-S (Based on location, sales volumes and other factors). The dealer then has the ability to trade with other dealers (at the port). The other dealers always have the option of saying no.

I had ordered my FR-S on July 1st. I received delivery on August 31st from a completely different dealership because my original dealership was not having any success getting the color I wanted. My original dealership finally got the allocation for the color I wanted on September 23rd. If I had waited, it would have been a 13 week wait.

My search skills aren't up to snuff apparently, did a couple searches and couldn't find much. my b

I tried to do this but was unsuccessful. I take it you're accomplishing this through a dealer in TX?

I was fortunate, and mine took about 3 weeks to arrive. Choosing a high-volume dealer helped (I think)... If you do find a dealer that says 'yes' to placing your order, make sure they're being realistic / legit about an actual allocation and delivery ETA.

Good luck. :)

Nope. I just contacted the other dealer directly and we worked out the details. It should be in at the end of this week or first thing next week. There was some over-nighting of the paperwork and some notarization that had to be done, but nothing hard.

I know this dealer has a couple more in stock that are AT if anyone is interested.

Interesting. That's exactly what I was looking to setup, but the dealer that I bought my vehicle from didn't want to have the paperwork shipped. Oh well. I am still happy with the purchase and the dealer paid for half my flight to come to them.

Those that are of a mind to place an order are facing a big problem. There is little incentive for the dealer to invest any effort/work in contacting other dealers and making a swap/exchange to get you the specific car you're looking for. The dealers are pretty well guaranteed that what ever FR-S they get in will probably sell within a days time so why invest a lot of time and effort where they don't have to?

Obja 09-26-2012 02:46 PM

it depends on where you live ;P

whaap 09-26-2012 03:00 PM

Not so much where you live but more the integrity of the individual sales rep. you're dealing with.

According to the dealer I placed my deposit with, Toyota allocates a certain number of vehicles to each based on their volume. If the vehicle you're looking for just happens to be in the allocation, you win, otherwise you wait. If you can convince them to swap with other dealers, good on you, but don't count on it. Of the 3 dealers I spoke to, two get about 1 FR-S/month, the third gets 3-4 every other week. Obviously, the third does far more business than the other two.

The advice I got was "don't be picky on color".

I was told 4-6 weeks and it came in at about 5½ weeks. I was also able to pick the color and transmission that I wanted (whiteout/manual).
