Subtle Lip Spoiler - where is it?

I want a VERY subtle lip spoiler to accent the back of my car, but so far it hasn't surfaced. I was at a red light today and saw an old Caprice that had a spoiler similar to what I want. When will something like this appear?

KEV-FRS 09-25-2012 11:59 PM

lol nice example, but i get what your saying. ive been searching for something similar with no luck yet, been thinking of how to make one on my own. i also have yet to find a rear window visor too.

DarrenDriven 09-26-2012 12:01 AM

Yeah... a rear window visor would look great.

Here is another example of a nice lip spoiler. M5.

Agreed, I would be in for something like this. Some of what's out now is nice, but nothing really catches my attention.

Phaedrus29 09-26-2012 12:23 AM

I've seen the 5axis and it's pretty minimal/stock-looking in person. Perhaps a bit more than you're looking for though.

The one on that M5 is what i would like too, i like the TRD but just the lip would be better for me. I like the gold S14 in your avatar too, my first car was a 95 in the same color and then a couple years ago i had a 96 also gold i did a few things too, Nismo sport suspension and 18" Nismo LMGT4's here's a pic...

sorry for the threadjack...

Check out the Carsmo spoiler http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14262. Its not too big, and matches the factory lines well.

RZ86 09-27-2012 01:02 AM

Grazio make a very subtle lip spoiler.

Grazio has a LOT of cool stuff! Here is the main link:
http://www.grazio-co.com/86/86_main.html

Just need to find pricing now...

That VERY SUBTLE spoiler is exactly what I was talking about... curious why @KaliKev said "Oh god" about it...

Here is a better photo.

@KEV-FRS, they also have a rear window spoiler!

I used a cheap ebay lip like one one here (that is actually my car):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Trunk-Lip-Sp...sories&vxp=mtr

http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Trunk-Lip-Spo...dU!~~60_12.JPG

They sell them in all kinds of lengths. You just need to measure the trunk line.

DarrenDriven 09-27-2012 01:22 PM

Hmmm... would it flex around the curved edge of the FR-S's trunk line?

JoeBoxer 09-27-2012 01:32 PM

I want the Grazio for sure hopefully its not $1k or something ridiculous.

Boosted240 09-27-2012 01:35 PM

Okay, that lip is great. I'd be in for that.

The Grazio? I have a whiteout too maybe we can get them pre-painted and save on shipping to the US?

Sure does. It is a urethane like rubber. It flops around if you hold it. You can make it turn in an S if you wanted to.

denverizzles 09-27-2012 02:38 PM

i'm betting that the grazio one which looks the nicest of those shown thus far is about $600...if they can jusify selling emblems for over $100, i dont see why they can't justify charging $600 for that lip spoiler

cantaloupe 09-27-2012 02:53 PM

need more info on that grazio spoiler...looks nice, but probably expensive..

We need to find out what it costs... And I'm still drawn to the Carsmo spoiler. And we know they have successfully matched the Whiteout color...

I might try that flexible eBay special... I like how subtle it looks, just worried about quality.

The one I got was perfect. The quality would be the painter.

Not sure if i got the right price but i think its about $400 not sure if thats painted or not. I wouldn't worry about paint matching with Grazio i will check with some vendors and see what they can come up with.

r4m3n 09-28-2012 01:08 AM

I had a E46-style lip spoiler I ordered off ebay and applied on my Acura TSX. It actually came out really nice. Hopefully there is one out there that may work with the FRS

KaliKev said "Oh god" and posted the smiley with hearts. I took him to mean "Oh god, I'm in love...that's gonna cost me $$$$$."

DarrenDriven 09-28-2012 01:50 AM

Ahhh... that makes sense.

Grazio Lip Spoiler

From http://www.grazio-co.com/86/86_spd.html

Drawing on my 20yr rusty japanese, the 4th item from the bottom of the price list says ToRaNKu RiPu SuPoiRa = Trunk Lip Spoiler, which is listed as = 29,400 Yen or ~375US.

The 3rd item from the bottom also says ToRaNKu RiPu SuPoiRa = Trunk Lip Spoiler, then 'KaRa-Bo', which I'm blanking on, and is listed at 39,000 Yen, or around $508 US. Edit. "KaRaDo", not KaRaBo, which I'm betting = Colored/Pre-Painted, given that it's used in other line items as well to distinguish between otherwise identical items w/ different prices.

Hope this helps.

I would probably pay $500 if the paint match was perfect on the whiteout, i feel like it needs something the only other one i like is the TRD.

boonFRS 10-05-2012 01:24 AM

I'm in for a group buy. I don't mind paying 5 for the spoiler painted.

FastLane1000 10-06-2012 03:48 PM

I bought a factory style lip spoiler for my last car, Lancer GTS, it was $130 shipped color matched from spoiler express or something. It mounted perfect and perfect color match. pricing will come down on this stuff just not sure when. Probably when these bigger companies start making them. I'm looking for something subtle in the 300-$350 range painted and shipped.

I actually ordered a blank lip spoiler and roof spoiler from this company. When it arrives I will modify it to fit the car, then have it painted. We'll see how it turns out.

Can you decipher any of the text next to the "Sportdesign Rear Fender Garnish"? Are those supposed to serve some kind of purpose?

Well, I was going to say no, cause it had all those ideograms, but when I went to look, Chrome offered to translate it. So, for what it's worth:

"And appropriate aesthetics and rear tire size light weight sport claiming to
be released in order to secure a large allowable even a little, "rear fender
garnish. " Delivers a wide 7mm each of the left and right fixed genuine
safety standards at two services, it further reinforced with double-sided tape and the entire clip
is the specification of adaptation. At the same time it looks just like a European super sports
enjoy. * 4 * Be sure to refer to the lower notes."

Flow 10-06-2012 10:52 PM

And, here's the full price list, as translated by Chrome. (btw, they moved the trunk prices since my earlier post. They're now the lines beginning with "Tran")

While not as subtle as the Grazio, I think the Doall Circuit Spec Tune rear lip qualifies, and might appeal to some: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...2&postcount=72.

DarrenDriven 10-11-2012 03:05 PM

OK, well I learned that the cheap eBay solution is NOT a solution. The components arrived and although it is flexible rubber material, it can only flex across the horizontal plane and would only work for a gently curved trunk. Since the FR-S trunk has a serious compound curve the material will not bend in two directions without warping. Bummer.

The roof spoiler has the same issue. The top corners of the FR-S rear glass has an angled design element that the material just can't compensate for.

Well, $100 down the drain!

Did you try and heat it?

The one I had on my M45 was quite soft, bent like a snake.

Bummer... :( Will they take it back since you didn't/couldn't install it?

DarrenDriven 10-12-2012 03:26 AM

They gave me a 50% refund. I am pretty sure that this material isn't going to contour to the sharp angles of the FR-S trunk line, but I'll try applying heat.

chulooz 10-12-2012 03:31 AM

painted STI lip gives it a real nice look
