prepping for winter
 

Unfortunately, the FRS is my DD and only car so sadly, its gonna have to last this winter. What can i do to minimize salt damage or steps to take to make RWD less ridiculous in the snow. wider wheels? chains? idk

Narrow wheels. Get Ice + Snow rated tires. Michelin X-Ice 3 = awesome.

Make sure you have winter-spec washer fluid in the car. Make sure your wiper blades are good.

If you're using a heavier oil - switch back to 0w20 or 0w30.

Wash your car and rinse the under-body regularly.

so the stock 7" rims are sufficient?

Thanks for reminding me why we left Michigan 40 years ago.

On a little more serious note, Ziebart was a big thing when we lived there. That or a product like that could prolong the life of your car considerably.

Am I the only one with a frs that is excited about winter?

I have a love hate relationship with winter. Edge of my seat driving in traffic with snow due to fear of someone sliding into me. Relaxing bliss through the snow when alone in parking lots :)

I've driven RWD vehicle with no traction control, limited diff, and just all season tires for years - through LOTS of snow. I had a RWD truck in northern NJ I'd drive in the snow on all seasons when I was 17.

Here's a tip - since the car came with summer tires, buy a set of winter tires on a second set of rims (steelies?) and just use care. You'll be fine. Drive slower, leave extra room for braking. You might even *gasp* find the car more fun in the snow!

If there were no other stupid drivers on the roads I would be excited as well. Problem is that we have the idiots in 4500lb SUV's that think AWD means they can drive as fast as they want until it comes time to stop.

I'll just make sure I'll have the paint sealed with some nice wax/conservartion and then I'll just wash it often. And ofc a set of good friction winter tires.
Here in Sweden they basically cover the roads with roadsalt in the winter to get rid of all the ice which makes the car dirty as hell.

I enjoy a good drive when it is snowing out.

You may not like them, but MUDFLAPS. They will keep a lot of salt off the side of your car.

Check out Nokian tires, going to order some for the FRS. Wash it if you can or even dare i say...take it to a car wash if anyone are open.
