Steering Wheel Controls

Hey guys,

Does anyone know if Impreza steering wheel controls are plug and play for the brz's head unit. I remember reading that the harnesses were the same somewhere. Would I be able to pull some out of a wrecked Impreza and have them be functional in my brz? I don't necessarily need them to fit on the wheel, I just want to have physical buttons for the functions. All I really want is the seek button. I hate trying to find the right arrow on the touch screen while driving. It requires me to look down from the road.

Any help is appreciated. I searched but couldn't find anything.

I am wondering that as well.

If the head unit had real buttons, I would be OK without the steering wheel controls.
But I like to change radio stations often.
Trying to tap the micro sized seek or preset touch buttons is impossible (or at least very random)
to do without taking my eyes off the road.

I was looking at the parts for a 2012 WRX steering wheel at parts.subaru.com

http://parts.subaru.com/parts/2012/S...agramCallOut=4

We would need a couple of things (at least).
A way to use our current airbag module? (is that possible?)
And whatever wiring harness those controls plug into.
(I wasn't able to find anything on the parts site, but maybe I missed it.)

Anybody think this is possible?

This is supposedly the smallest wheel that Subaru has used in their vehicles, so putting one from another car may look out of place. I do have to admit that it sucks navigating the touchscreen when driving. I sense this will more than likely be an update for the 2014's.

I was actually not looking to put it on the wheel. I was actually thinking of 3d printing a something I could mount by the cup holders or shifter to give my self a remote type thing. I miss physical buttons that desperately!

If they update this for 2014, I'll be sorely tempted to swap out whatever hardware is different. I'd also be tempted to try to get Subaru to pay for it. Those touchscreen buttons are just so annoying!

Wish I could find a cheap impreza radio stereo control so I could make a wired remote. That would be sweet. I have been searching the internet but so far no luck. Ill have to check my local junk yard...
