Backfire when shifting

Hello guys,

i am wondering if any of you have this issue:

Since i have installed my Injen Intake, sometimes when i am in lower gear (going from 1-2 or 2-3) i have this backfire sound when i get back on the gas.

I was wondering if anybody had this issue before.

I am starting to think it might be my catalityc converter that is going away.

I have no pingging nothing, always gas up at 94.

I've had this happen twice. I let the RPMs fall too low and when I blip the throttle to rev match it back fires or makes a popping sound. Make sure your RPMs aren't really low before you stomp on it.

no mine happen when i shift rapidly, it doesn't come down, and usually happens when i am 3/4 throttle in 2nd gear, then shift and going back on the gas at 3/4 throttle again.

Anybody?? people with injen intake?

TouchMyHonda 09-26-2012 11:09 AM

Dude it's normal. It's a happy noise.

I would be excited about backfire instead of worry. Ever heard a high compression motor with only headers before?

gmookher 09-26-2012 11:24 AM

well that takes injen off my list...

I am all about backfire when it makes sense! I come from a 400whp nissan skyline...

Don't worry i have heard and race high compression motor with exhaust.

Taking a wild guess here, the intake is causing changes in the air fuel mixture and leaving unburnt mixtures behind, a tune is needed. Seems that these cars are very sensitive to any changes in ecu readings.

That was also on my list, but i tought the ecu could compensate since i am running 94 and not 91. I will put back the stock intake to see if it still does it, if it does it's propably the Cat.

Its probably just because of intake + no tune. I wouldn't even worry about it unless the sound annoys you. Personally mine pops and spits a little bit on downshifts since the muffler delete and I get a semi-boner every time.

you are running rich and you need a tune.

Don't get me wrong, i really don't mind, even the first couple of time it happened i felt the pleasure of beating the shit out of a turbo car.I bought this car to beat it on the track and i sale performance part, backfires doesn't bother me at all, if it had been a cat problem, i would of gone test pipe.

Since it's a new car i'd rather ask and see if i am the only one!

Thanks guys!

Gas mileage might suffer.
