factory Turbo BRZ?
 

Has there been any word on Subaru making a turbo version of this car for the US?
i now it was mentioned that the FRS would get a turbo version but not for the US. It makes sense since the Scion brand wouldn't allow for a $30k pricing but for the Subaru it would make sense.
any word on this?

They already have the engine with the turbo being used in the Japanese Legacy GT DIT. It puts out 296hp @5600rpm and 295lb ft torque @2000-4800rpm. All they need to do now is make it fit, maybe a taller hood or one with a bump.

A BRZ with a factory turbo is probably going to sell for $35k or more. It's cheaper to go aftermarket and get a higher quality turbo

And there goes the peace of mind with having a full warranty from the manufacturer, and also the engineering / research / knowledge combined with the overall balance of the car which comes from their factory. Keyword = Balance.

If I'm already buying the car from the manufacturer itself, then I might as well trust them with their OEM turbo version of the car... If one does come to existence. Cost is very important, but peace of mind is of more value for me.

Some folks will have their preference to modify with an aftermarket option... Whereas others will depend on the factory to release their very own version.

Just my opinion. :)

If subaru makes turbo version, it would definitely have different engine internals. It wont just be a turbo kit. Everything else needs to change it order to fit a turbo in this car. 35k sounds reasonable for a turbo'd brz

I talked to the lead Scion guy for the FR-S a few months ago at a private marketing event and asked him if there was going to be a turbo version. His exact quote was "No, we are going to let the aftermarket blow up our engines. There will not be a factory turbo version."

Subaru has always kept their lips tight about future projects, this is no different.And they would be marketing geniuses if they told you when the turbo model was arriving. (aka Don't buy this model now and upgrade later, just wait a couple years.)

Demand=Production and I doubt Subaru wants to miss out.

Well, at least we can set our expectations low...

... For the time being. :D

By the way, Inside Line says this for the future of the BRZ:

"2013 Subaru BRZ: Don't expect any significant changes or additions to the BRZ for at least at year, but we've got good money on a turbo version (STI?) showing up inside of two years. It would, after all, be stupid to ignore the obvious goodness of such a car."

And this for the FR-S:

"2014 Scion FR-S: Although nothing has been confirmed, Scion is expected to introduce a turbocharged version of the FR-S by 2013. Toyota engineers have confirmed that the guts of the current drivetrain are capable of withstanding the additional stresses of a more powerful engine and there's plenty of room under the hood to add a little hardware."

Still, nothing's set in stone, I suppose... I hope for the best within these twins though!
