Great read thanks for sharing. It sounds like the production version will come with ADVICS brakes and race tuned suspension standard??

This is my favorite line: "Toyota said that the auto market has become so focused on being green, eco-friendly and saving baby hummingbirds that they forgot some people like to keep their heart beating when they drive a car"... I hope other car manufacturers start to see this too! Too many have forgot that cars aren't just about getting from point A to B but can also be about having fun.

Im seriously sick of 'green'. Its not that I hate the planet or anything, but I will never own a hybrid :)

Hope Toyota offers multiple level packages like the Genesis and 370z. Something for everyone. Just keep the base trim car's price low.

Everyone compares this car to the genesis coupe so my question is anyone know how well the genesis coupe has sold so far (either models)? Seems like there was soooo much hype around that car before it came out and then just not that much anymore.

Word.... companies are going off the deepend too in making hybrid 'sports cars' now like the CRZ. That thing is doomed.

Ironically, I bet this car will get good fuel economy so it keeps up with the green but also it's going to be sporty.

That's the thing that I keep thinking... The MCS gets 36mpg on the highway because it has a relatively efficient engine, has a 6sp transmission and it only weighs ~2600lbs. If Toyota follows that same strategy of 2600lbs, TALL gearing at the top end, and a 6sp manual it'll get at least 36mpg, possibly more.

If toyota builds this thing right, the Genesis coupe wont even be competition. It'll be the same price range but like 500 pounds heavier!

A turbo'd 1.6 putting out 200hp or a 1.4t putting out 180hp would've been better. Anyone looking for a 300hp 370z killer for $20k is delusional...

86Fan 10-13-2009 04:03 PM

this engine also seems to rev to 7.5k based on the concept pictures.

kensin 10-13-2009 05:22 PM

i can deal with 30k+ if its a ej25 turbo
this car whould be perfect

I know what you mean. I'm all for saving the planet and all that, but I enjoy driving. Therefore, I want a car that's actually fun to drive... and most hybrids are anything but fun. It's good to see that cars like this are making a come back. We need more rwd, 4/2+2 seaters on the market.

If I could afford 2 cars, then sure, I'd rock a Prius during the week (my job is 40mins away from where I live) and then roll in the 86 during the weekends and stuff. But since that's not the case, I'd rather spend my money on something that will truly make me happy.

You say that now but I bet it will be almost impossible to go from the 86 to a prius every week :) :)

I plan on DDing my 86
