Will not rev over 4000rpm and engine light on.

Hi guys, I am building a dedicated 86 track car.. I am putting it back together having the cage in and painted, dash back in but cant figurte out why the engine light is one.. it hits like a rev limiter at 4000 rpm.

The heater wires are not plugged in, fans, airbags and a few other items also.. but all of the main engine stuff plugged in right.. does this just need a reset??

Also I intend on moving the OBD port into the front of the console for easier access, can I find a program and a connector wire for the laptop that allows me to reset things at the track or is this a Toyota only thing?? Obviously I'm not great at this side of the car build . :)

Any help is appreciated.

get an ELM327 ODBII Bluetooth Adaptor and any number of ODBII tools that runs on Smartphone. Alternately buy a hardware ODB scantool, these shouldn't cost any more than say $80-100 on eBay.

Thanks.

I can help you out. I have an Innovate wireless scan tool which should be able to read and clear faults. PM me.

had this happen to me once also. code i had was for too lean... disconnected the battery and performed a discharge. started the car back up and all was good. code remained in history as well for me to discuss with dealership.

Thanks for that.. I will give it a try.. can't hurt anyway.. only things in the engine bay to go was the A/C condenser.. I have new alloy plugs with O rings to fill the holes in the compressor.. Inside basically all airbags and sensors out, radio out, A/C and heater controls out along with the whole under dash cooling/fan unit. Speakers and all trims gone.. I will use the window power units and embed them in the new carbon fiber panels. Once I get the fault sorted and sure it's not a critical wire off or loose I will re install the lower dash and console. A long way to go till track time.. season starts Feb 2013 so I have some time..
Will post some pics once it's in war paint !

Thanks for the comments guys..

you have to host pics online and link to them. i do not think there is an option for uploading directly from your drive.
