Anyone having throttle issues?

My FR-S after 6,000 miles started losing power at times. Particularly at low revs, I'll be driving along and the engine starts to lose power a little, forcing me to press harder on the accelerator to compensate. Also, when I press the gas, when the car is at idle speed 650 rpm, the engine shivers a bit before picking up. I don't know it the two issues are related. I can rule out bad gas, since I have been using Shell 93. It is a stock motor.

Sounds like the cel issue cropping up

Mine is starting to have the same sort of issue, only 800 miles though.

Can you describe what you are experiencing?

Sounds similar to this: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16997

I've experienced this too, intermittently, only when accelerating from a stop (coming off of idle). RPM's dip slightly, feels rough. Not very noticeable, but it does happen from time to time. 1200 miles on my car. My 1968 Datsun 2000 would so this too - didn't expect it from my brand new BRZ.

Ours does it too sometimes - almost like a very sticky throttle cable might feel, if it had one.

Also, S2000 do it worse and it's due to heat soak due to their poor intake design.

I think it's jammy cams in his case, but it might easily be something else.

Sounds like this problem...

No, that sounds somewhat different. The problem in my car happens at neutral throttle. Most noticeably at rpm's under 2,000, the engine bogs down, feels like the brake is being applied. When I compensate by pushing on the throttle it gets worse, then in about 1/2 a second the engine finally starts to rev up again. Very disturbing. I'm pissed.

Any cel? You have any mods or all stock?

Edit: you open up your intake and look for any obstructions @ filter? Reason I ask is I had a rubber glove left in mine from factory. Leaf or anything it sucked in could cause probs too and easy thing to check off of your list. Mouse nest thread was the best so far. Ugh.

The cure seems to be to take it out for a good ragging down a back road.

It's sweet as a nut again now.

I wonder if it's the DI making it a bit cokey in heavy traffic?

FRiSson 09-24-2012 11:13 AM

No Mods on the car. Checked the filter - it is clear. Ran the car at high RPM's too. Did not change the problem.

"Cokey" is a new one to me.

Figured that wouldn't be it, but also figured there wouldn't be a rubber glove in the intake on mine, ha. I will say that I got a bad tank of gas from a reputable place that I get gas from often and had some issues. Knock correction was spitting out high numbers (over -4) and had bogging. Was worst going from off throttle to 1/4 or 1/2 throttle suddenly at lower rpms. Feathering the throttle and full throttle wasnt as bad and disappeared over 3k rpms. Wouldn't automatically check that off of your list because it's shell gas. All fixed with a new tank. Good luck!

I wish it were bad gas, but I am into my third tank since the problem began, with no improvement.

my throttle is very laggy.. not sure if it was related to my cel/sl problem but it was like this from day one.. I had a cel come up pretty quick, under 300 miles.
