Is there a way to disable the immobilizer?

I just picked up my BRZ on Wednesday and as of Friday morning, it wouldn't start. From what I can tell, the immobilizer has been activated - is there any way to disable it so I can actually start my car to drive it to the dealer to get looked at?

All I've done to the car is set the shift light - and the next morning, the car wouldn't start....

If the immobilizer has been activated, I think you need to have it towed. How did you activate the immobilizer?

Have you checked the basics? Even if the lights come one when you turn the key, the battery may not have enough voltage to start the car. Are the battery cables tight? If you are talking about a chipped key, if the key you are using doesn't work, the car will start but will immediately die. Have you tried using the other key? Oh wait, is this a limited with push button ignition?

Maybe it's not the immobilizer, maybe you have a broken clutch safety switch, or maybe you have a carpet that's not allowing the clutch to be depressed all the way. AUTO, you could have a bad neutral safety switch or you may have a bad brake switch. On my Toyota 4Runner I sometimes could not get the gear selector out of Park. I felt like an idiot, but it turned out to be a bad brake light switch. Try to look at the simple things first. I don't think that it's the immobilizer, not on a new car.

The immobilizer gets activated every time you take the key out of the ignition. There's no "extra" immobilizer that can get set. If it doesn't detect the key it won't start, that is the immobilizer.

Right now, the key is being recognized and the green light blinks, but there's also a red light that blinks when trying to start the car.

Unfortunately, I'm not with the car as I'm out of town, but I left my keys with a friend to let him drive the car and he couldn't get it started. He took a video trying to start the car and it looks like everything lights up like it should...

I guess might need to get it towed... :mad0260:
