Installed my Injen Intake, looky!

Update 4/29/13, let me save you some reading here: The intake was actually defective. Do not buy this intake as from the looks of it, Injen has poor customer service and will likely just ignore you if yours is defective. I was screwed, for example, and ended up never receiving a replacement. Instead buy something that is has better quality control, like anything else.

Original Thread:
Despite having an impacted wisdom tooth removed yesterday, I went ahead and installed my new Injen intake as soon as it arrived today via UPS.

After installing, I unplugged the battery for 15 minutes. (Resets the ECU supposedly.) Then I started the engine without touching the accelerator, letting it idle unsupervised for 10 minutes.

So, it was ready to go... I hop in, put it in reverse to back out of the garage, and almost stall. Low engine speed throttle response seems to be all but gone. There's a dead spot in the pedal that wasn't there before installing the intake. Thinking that the ECU may adapt sooner or later, I took it for a drive and accelerated 0-60 several times. It does seem to have a little more pep higher in the rpm range, but down low it remained the same: Sluggish and worse than stock.

Sounds nice, but i'm contemplating removing this and opting for a drop in filter instead. That is, unless there is something I can do to make the ECU adapt or something.

Sorry for the lame photos; my Casio Exilim decided to go into its crappy standby mode instead of turning completely off, resulting in a dead battery.

I would still give it a couple drive cycles. After flashing my car with two tunes, I too had a weird dead spot in the throttle. But after a couple days of driving, the response went back to normal.

That's good news! I'll keep my fingers crossed. I won't be driving much soon because I currently cannot eat, am on some strong pain killer and the left side of my jaw looks like Quagmire's from Family Guy. lol :bonk:

He did....

it takes the computer a few times to adjust for air/fuel. i still wouldn't put any parts on this car without tuning.

If you ditch it I'll take it.

FantomRider 09-20-2012 04:42 PM

Do you have to reset ECU? I didn't reset mine. I been running 2k miles with Injen intake with no issue except when I start up, the RPM is at 1.5K then it drops slowly to 700-800. Is that normal?

Looking good! Congrats on the new intake:happyanim:

Yes, engine does that when stock

I have a feeling that you didn't even read what he posted...

I did... Didn't really get into the issue of course as it was really answered in the second post:

I would say just to make sure, check to see if there are any vacuum leaks that would have lead to any where idling issues and acceleration issues. Normally the ECU can take some time to adapt, pretty standard when resetting the ECU.

Ugh. It died on me twice today on the way home from the gym. This is dangerous, as i'm losing braking power when approaching lights and stop signs. I guess i'll have to get the Visconti tune... :D

As for anyone else looking at this particular intake, I recommend looking elsewhere unless you plan on getting a tune. My car had no idling issues until I installed this intake.

Anyone know if the Greddy intake has the same issue with stock tune?

audioenvy 09-26-2012 03:58 PM

If your car is dying, I would double/triple check to make sure there's not something amiss with the install.

That said, Visconti has been testing/tuning several different intakes. Has even one of them shown any measurable gains yet? (Even with his tune?)
