Pics of new armrest accessory in development.

Hey everybody, I'm lucky enough to be field testing this new accessory armrest. I'm interested to hear your thoughts and feedback, but please keep in mind that at this point I can't say anything about pricing or availability.

Features
-It doesn't interfere with the cupholder in the armrest (unless you've got a cup in them).
-It is setup at the same height as the armrest on the door, which is a nice feature.
-Soft black leather with red stitching that is a dead match for the rest of the red stitching used throughout the interior.
-Nicely padded
-Excellent fit and finish
-Button lock/release mechanism

Until this piece was installed, I never knew that I was missing having an armrest!

Here are some pics:

I'd totally be down for that! Looks really nice.

Hix 09-19-2012 11:44 AM

I'll take one. Preorders?? I don't care about price.

post_break 09-19-2012 11:46 AM

It should attach with strong magnets so you can pop it off and toss it in the back seat when you have drinks in the cup holders.

In the pic where it is open, you can see two little stoppers that hold it open. I haven't had any issues with the lid closing going around a corner with drinks in there.

nsx_guy 09-19-2012 11:49 AM

arm rest

Looks Great! I'd be interested as well!

jarviz 09-19-2012 11:50 AM

Looks nice! Does it open smoothly like a nice heavy german product or is it that cheap plasticy feel where it flings open and feels like's gonna break if you open and close it too many times.

Does it stay open when you're driving around... in case we decide to have a big gulp in there hehe

MVJ1975 09-19-2012 11:53 AM

Looks good to me!

whaap 09-19-2012 11:53 AM

Yeah. I'd like to be informed when they become available.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience!

Hahaha that's awesome. Maybe I need to add that bit to my sig.

Yruyur 09-19-2012 11:56 AM

Very nice match of the interior. Now add a collapsible cup holder near the glove box by the shifter and all will be well.

I agree with the statement that it should be held on with magnets. not b/c it will interfer with drinks but having it open will interfer with the lady friends arm and her wanting to put it on the console.

CBR600RR 09-19-2012 11:58 AM

That looks great!!!!

I am guessing this is aftermarket and not OEM?

how about and 86 logo embroidered on it?

Turbowned 09-19-2012 12:02 PM

Are they taking suggestions? I feel like it needs more... how do I say it... texture isn't necessarily the word I'm looking for. I just feel that the top is too flat and the edges too rounded. Like obviously the top surface needs to be flat for your arm, but I feel like it looks like a big pancake. What if they made edges sharper? I dunno how to describe it, exactly.

I'll be providing any feedback I get... whether anyone listens is a different story. :)

In my opinion, the shape and feel of the armrest is spot on. Seeing this armrest in person, it looks like the car came with it from the factory. It will only get better in production as this is a prototype piece.

bakerr6 09-19-2012 12:28 PM

not sure but to follow the rest of the theme on the inside, I would say that this could use a double stitch also

Pake1 09-19-2012 12:32 PM

put me down for a pre-order!

looks great!

Zgrinch 09-19-2012 12:33 PM

Needs a slot at base to allow mobile phone charger cord to pass through, unless it has one and I'm just not seeing it.

Silverback 09-19-2012 12:36 PM

DAMN....Looks great

jstans84 09-19-2012 12:41 PM

Very nice, that is pretty much the only thing in my mind that the car is missing.

Hahaha I'm sure even if it closed it wouldn't matter for your under 32oz drinks.

Spartan65 09-19-2012 12:42 PM

Great Job, I'll buy when ready.

Agreed!!!!

Also; i think it is a must for dual red stitching. one around the top as shown, and one arround the side/edge. look at all the other dual red stitching near it (seats and shifter boot)

Agree on the double stitching.

kwood9000 09-19-2012 12:51 PM

Very nice!

Beyer Subaru 09-19-2012 12:58 PM

I love the looks, fit and finish. The only thing is that I would like to still be able to use my cupholder and the armrest together.

Why can't we have our cake and eat it?

Meh.

colHolm 09-19-2012 01:00 PM

The double stitching is an interesting idea... Didn't think of it.

That being said, it is only single stitching on the door pad and door arm rests... So this armrest isn't totally out of place.

Where do you keep your phone? Mine fits in under the armrest while plugged in... Bluetooth connection to the head unit means I don't need to touch it.

You aren't texting while driving are you?!? :bonk:

SMOKETREES 09-19-2012 01:02 PM

I want one

mattles 09-19-2012 01:04 PM

I would pay any amount of money for this delightful contraption.

I would crawl over the corpses of other fallen FRS/BRZ owners just to have this.

smbrm 09-19-2012 01:06 PM

I think it looks great.
- I wonder if adding locking mechanism might be possible?
- Just getting wild here, but how about two holes in the top to make the cup holder accessbile rather than having to open to get at the cup holders. You would still have the padding at the front and around the holes and nothing inside would be accessible, buy the cup holders still usable?

Sportsguy83 09-19-2012 01:09 PM

It looks great, I want it now.

avusblue 09-19-2012 01:16 PM

I absolutely love it. I'm envious. I'd definitely be in for one -- if it reflected some of the above suggestions, that might be nice, but I'd buy it exactly as shown, as well.

Go to production! :w00t:

rikdrt1 09-19-2012 01:23 PM

it does look very good and matches perfectly, but like one guy said.
if your lady is with you and shes drinking a cup of coffee - that would really suck to have that thing sticking in -- it would be cool to remove it or snap it off when that happens...

kinda hard to have both cool cupholders and a cool armrest that isnt in the way. i can see no other way but to be able to quickly take it off when needed .. but not sure.

id buy one either way --- when and how much ?

jeebus 09-19-2012 01:24 PM

dude. This is perfect! It's like the one my NB miata had! (only this one looks way better)

deucethemoose 09-19-2012 01:24 PM

So in order to use this I have to screw into my console? Meh. I'll pass.

bakerr6 09-19-2012 01:29 PM

also, why not make slots in the armrest to remove it and make the cup holders functional? You could place removeable slots in it that would all ow the armrest to stay, and also have drinks on there at the same time

kwood9000 09-19-2012 01:33 PM

Maybe have it so it slides back allowing access to the cup holders.

Rawdog 09-19-2012 01:37 PM

I personally like to hold hands with girls when I drive and I like my girls to be hydrated as well so the whole flippy-up thing isnt gonna work for me

colHolm 09-19-2012 01:38 PM

Excellent feedback everyone - keep it coming.

This thread blew up way faster than I thought!

Jidonsu 09-19-2012 01:39 PM

want.
