Water in AC/Circulation Fan
 

So its finally been getting cold enough now that I have dew forming every night on my car...went to turn on the defroster this morning and hear water sloshing around from the glove box area (where the AC and fan is), look down and see water running out of the glove box area onto the floor. On top of that I have water condensing on the inside of all my windows.

So I guess I have a clog or defect in the draining system for the circulation fan that is causing water to fill up in the unit and then dump on my floor. Back to the dealer I go.

Ugh, that's no bueno! I hope they find a quick fix!

i have had this issue happen to cars in the past. The drain line got clogged with something. Super easy fix, you can do it yourself if you want to not loose time at the dealer.

Just as a follow up, just got back from the dealership a little bit ago. They found the problem and it was an easy fix which is good. Apparently the Air Conditioner drains into a larger tube that drains water off during rain. This tube was kinked on my BRZ causing the drain tube to back up, when this happened the water flowed back into the evaporation box (???) for the AC and then dumped all over my floor. If this happens to anyone else no need to panic its a simple fix.

Did the dealer ever explain to you where this hose is exactly? I think my car has developed the same issue - sloshing sound behind the glovebox, water dumped on passenger floorboard. I'm trying to locate the source of the issue (or where it drains to) and I'm not terribly sure where to look for it. I do know that if I dump some water on the windshield cowl, it does drain to the ground without any issue... So I guess I've isolated the issue to the AC/circulation fan inside the car. I'm trying to avoid the trip to a dealer of its indeed a simple fix...

Passenger side in front of the footwell. Will need a lift or remove the underpanels to see the little rubber tube.

appex: they didn't give me any details on the repair other than it is the drain tube from the A/C and rain drain. The drain clogged and overflowed into the A/C unit then. You might want to take it into the shop because the repair didn't necessarily work...

A few months after the initial repair I had the same situation come up again. Water dumped all over my floor (worse than the first time) after a heavy rain. My dealership didn't really work with me on getting the car into the shop on time so I took matters into my own hand and ran the heater through the floor for over an hour trying to dry things out to prevent mold growth. The day before taking the car in the carpet padding was still wet like a sponge but the dealership claimed they could not find any sign of water.

After them having the car for a week, they claimed they could not find the problem and replicate the water leaking, returning the car to me. Through the process I was in contact with Subaru of America on creating a claim and making sure things were moving forward this time. Because it couldn't be replicated and they wanted me to shut up about replacing the whole A/C unit and interior in fear of mold and mildew, they offered me a months payment on my car (as an out of court settlement that would negate any lemon laws) and I rejected.

My gut feeling is the first time they simply unpinched the hose and put everything back together. The hose then got blocked again at the same point and when I brought it into the shop they realized their mistake in not replacing the hose the first time. They then went and installed a new hose without me knowing and hiding the mistake to keep me happy...this is all speculation but since the second great flooding I have had no signs of problems which makes me suspicious...moral of the story is I don't think it is a simple unpinching of the hose but requires a full replacement. Sorry for the long text but let me know if you have questions.

My car is on dealer for flooded passenger floor. Want me to pick up car tomorrow and and pay 450$ for diagnosis. They say water is coming I through firewall where I ran amp cable

Bumping this old thread, but can anyone provide a picture of where exactly the drain tube is? Would like to avoid the dealership if possible. Thanks in advance :)
