Aftermarket Cams

Well, being that aparently the stock cams in the BRZ/FR-S can rev to 9grand, i was wondering if there are going to be any higher profile cams that can be just drop in cams and keeping the stock valvetrain. Being that the valvetrain aparently is very top quality. Anyone have and sneak peeks about this or info?

iv only heard of custom cam grinds for the FA20 that shops have sent out, but nothing available for the mass consumer market yet. It wont be for long id imagine.

With a built engine and a big enough turbo id say 10k would be doable on these motors. Would be cool anyway. Plus a turbo'd BRZ would be sick.

Well, i know HKS, Brian Crower, and a few other aftermarket shops have made cams for several high end cars, such as the Skyline, Supra, and others in their category. But, i believe some 262/272 cams would be pretty nice. Idk what the stock ones are but, they seem pretty nice.

I'm sure eventually someone will make them but right now it's hard to say how much they will help.

The cams need to be made with AVCS in mind and also be machined correctly for AVCS.

And changing cams on a H4 engine is a huge PITA since there are...4 of them. It's one of those things you do when the engine isn't in the car.

^^hahahaha true true true... Im so not use to worrying about that.... Hell, on my old supra, it was easy as cake. But, this will be a learning experience for me. Gotta love the way people make things to work right.... (sarcasm) but still, what do you think this motor could rev too without busting a hole through the block safely, 10k, 11k?

This and other parts for N/A is what i want to see. Seems like the market is just flooded with turbo kits but i havnt seen even a hint of anything past I/H/E for N/A

usptwins 09-18-2012 12:15 AM

Well, as far as n/a aftermarket, i can't really imagine anyone wanting more than a 12.5:1 compression ratio... and as far as anything else, the rods or pistons have handled a shit ton more than they were designed to... But, yea, it would be nice.

Tansey86 09-18-2012 12:17 AM

A n/a build will be 2x the money, 1/2 the efficiency and power, and less driveable. Thats why you only see turbo stuff, but it will all come soon enough. I see a huge aftermarket for this car/motor.

Tomei is currently working on cams.

Delta will do custom regrinds.

Crower is sleeping on this platform right now.

That's all I know is for sure at this point.

I know a couple of months ago someone said Cosworth was working on stuff but that was back in may or june.

usptwins 09-18-2012 02:48 AM

HEY! thats great! Tomei and Crawford!! maybe with a lil input from the turbo guys and shops, Crawford can make some that will do great with the turbo kits!

xwd 09-18-2012 07:33 AM

Cosworth was doing some development as well from what I remember seeing.

Delta regrinds has traditionally been the option for most of the NA (2.5RS) Subaru guys, but the BRZ/FR-S is popular enough I think you'll see people makes cams. In the end there are quite a few cam options for the WRX/STI, but most seem to use GSC these days. Kelford has also been a popular option. It's just going to take awhile for those guys to get ahold of cams.

Turbo is easy but cams will definitely be cheaper. People will freak out at the cost, since they might be >$1K

Tomei is currently working on errything
