Shift Knob
Has anyone else have the top cap of the shift knob coming off?
|
Noticed it just last night to be honest!

There is no real stop built into the OEM shift knob so it makes it possible to tighten the knob down too far and then it will push the top cap off. People have been complaining about the knob turning on them so they tighten it more and this happens. Some have used lock tite or other types of adhesive to keep it tight without turning it too far.
I got an BRZ OEM knob that I am using in my 6 speed Spyder. I had the same problem with the knob not tightening enough. I ended up fabbing a stop for it by cutting the end off of a 12M x 1.25 bolt, cutting a screwdriver slot in it and screwing it into the knob. Then I put the knob on and tightened it until it hit the new stop. It will not screw in far enough to lift off the top anymore and it stays tight. |

The knob doesn't have a top portion. The shifters is supposed to bottom out at the cap. Overtighten it and the cap will start to come off. It may also happen during a hot day if you have the knob tightened down fairly well. |
Thankfully, mine's in fair shape... 4k miles on the car, thus far.

This just started happening to mine. Took it in for my 7K service and they will be replacing my knob.
