Washed and Opti-Coated

Picked up my DGM on Friday. Had asked the dealer not to wash it. It was too windy yesterday so the car stayed in the garage. Went out this morning and washed it, did an IPA wipe down, 3M adhesion remover to get the remnants of the adhesive off the car from the shipping stickers, IPA wipe down again, applied Opti-coat to the exterior, headlights, taillights, door jams, trunk crevices, and wheels. Adam's glass sealant on all windows and Adam's Super VRT on the tires and wheel wells. It was my first time using Opti-coat. Pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it.

The car should be getting tint and Xpel Ultimate on the hood, fenders, bumper, mirrors, headlights and fogs this week.

Looks great! Have you ever used Opticoat before or was this your first time?

cnk 09-16-2012 04:08 PM

It was my first time using Opti-coat. I've used other polymers before but I must say I'm very impressed with the results of the OC.

kmbkk 09-16-2012 04:12 PM

Never mind. Me<reading the entire post, lol!

Looks beautiful! This is addressing some of my concern about opticoat. I was worried I would never get a deep shine with it but that second picture is proving me wrong. Good job!

Thanks. Yeah, I was curious to see how it would compare to a typical wax job. I had the DA ready to go if I didn't like it. I may hit it up with some Optimum detailing spray later on as that's supposed to bring out the shine even more. The pics are off my Galaxy Note so it doesn't really show how deep the shine really is. Will try to get some pics with my Canon 7D later.

Considering that most quick detail sprays only work for a few days on a non-opti-coated car, do you think it'd be worth it on an opti-coated car? I would think it really wouldn't do much at all. I heard a good wax will give more depth to the shine but only for so long since the opti-coat really doesn't let anything adhere.

The detail spray I'm referring to is made by Optimum, the same company that makes Opti-coat. It's a quick detail and gloss enhancer. Just used to make it pop a little more.

For the Florida folks looking for an opti-guard guy. He does amazing work!

Looks good. Did you opticoat the gixxer at all.
Had my FZ6 done as well.

cnk 09-16-2012 11:51 PM

It's a CBR600RR. Did not opticoat it yet. I keep it clean and have found Plexus to do a good enough job on it that I probably won't OC it.

KingRohan 09-16-2012 11:59 PM

My bad on the 600rr beauty bike. Plexus will have to look that up.

JWMotoring 09-17-2012 12:03 AM

That looks good

Nice, good to know the OC works well on the DGM. I had no reason to believe otherwise, but its good to see pics, regardless.

Was this the one mentioned in the SoA thread as available in NJ? If so, nice ninja grab!

Nope. I ordered mine back on August 10th. I was the first one on their order list as the 2 previous orders were filled already.

If you enjoy wax your car often, then You don't have to do OptiCoat.
OptiCoat suits for people who don't have their time to do waxing.

I previously polish & wax and clay depends on how dirty car gets. i consider getting Opti-Coat but i decided not to.

zoomzoomers 09-17-2012 04:15 PM

I'm really considering getting my BRZ opti coated. Can any of you guys educate me on the benefits? Is it really worth the $300 to get your car OC'd than to say pay $100 every other year to get it professionally detailed? :thanks:

cnk 09-17-2012 04:22 PM

It's a permanent coating so that you don't have to wax your car. It doesn't allow dirt to stick to it as easily and water just sheets off it. Cleaning it is just like normal, wash/rinse and clay bar if you want. If you don't want to spend money every year to get the car detailed, take the time to learn how to do it yourself. It's not hard, but it does take a lot of time and attention to detail.

wheelhaus 09-17-2012 06:06 PM

Does it add much in the way of durability regarding nicks and chips?

cnk 09-17-2012 06:15 PM

Not really meant for nicks/chips. That's why I'm also getting Xpel Ultimate put on this week on the hood, bumper, mirrors, and fenders.
