Giving credit card details to dealer??

Guys, so I decided to put a down payment for a car. It is an out of state car and I'm currently away from USA. So the dealer asked me to pay the down payment using a credit card and he asked me about the details of my credit card such as card number, security code, etc.

Is it safe to provide him with such important information? What should I do? This is my first time buying a car out of state.

Really appreciate any comments and opinion. Thanks!

That's how I put a deposit on my BRZ out of state. I don't see it much different than ordering online except you know the name of the exact person who has your information.

I bought my car out of state with a CC deposit, and lived to tell about it.

I would do it over the phone rather than something like email.

We have to put any details right? Including credit card number, security code, and expiration date as well right? I just want to make sure I don't give him some unnecessary information.

Thank you guys for letting me know! Because this is my first experience.

He's going to need everything you would enter when you order something online. CC #, security code, expiration date, full name, and probably home address.

I did the same thing today while offshore.

Yes, he is going to charge your card the deposit as soon as car arrives. Therefore he needs all info to do it.

Which state are you buying it from? I believe Nevada is the only state that CA allows you to buy a new car from unless you have it registered outside of CA.

Yes.

Dealerships, as sleazy as some may be, have to follow a strict code of ethics when it comes to personal information. I can't even leave paperwork on my desk that might contain customer's information, lest some random guy walk by and steal that information. We can be fined obscene amounts of money for breaking this code. Your credit card number will be used to make the deposit and then the numbers should be put in a shredder.

Make sure the dealer isn't located in a west African state.
