Automotive blogger- Test drives FR-S

I'm the Automotive blogger for the Greensheet in Houston, Texas.

On Monday 9/17/12 I am posting a review of the Scion FR-S. I thought y'all might want to read it. I'll post the link Monday morning.

*side note: I met a guy named "Victor" at the Houston Coffee and Cars meet. His name on this board is "F1.4". Victor- Post a Pic of of your car specifically of the Toyota badging, I would like to add it to the blog post.

Here is a preview...

"...
Just below the automatic shifter is the button that allows for three different drive modes: Normal, Sport and the final selector disables all traction control. I felt comfortable in my driving skills to remove the traction control completely (it’s my duty as a car blogger)...."

Post a pic of YOUR car... I might add it to the Blog Post on Monday!

i feel sorry for you testing the car in 20s..."255/30 2R20 in the rear and 245/30 2R20 up front"

just wow....that might have muddied up your test a bit.

Too bad you also ended up with automatic, which is slightly more dull than its 6spd counter-part. Trust me, the shifter feeling going through gates in that car is very rewarding.

Oh I didn't catch this before the posting. I don't have many pictures of the overall car with just the Toyota badges, but here are two. @Blackfly It was good meeting you at Cars and Coffee.

It’s your duty as a car blogger to test a reasonable car.:bs:

Wast of time driving FR-S with 20s!

Dealer that gave them that car to test should be shot.
Blogger that did the test should have enough sense to ask for a stock car or at the very least a car not severely handicapped and there for should also be shot.

It's cool. I really wanted to post a photo of your car with the badging. I just ran out of time.

It was good meeting you as well. Next C&C I'll try and come buy your group.

The dealership only had one FR-S on the lot. They are in high demand! Brandon Dykes at Mike Calvert Toyota said they were only allocated 2 per month until they could ramp up production.

I still enjoyed driving it. Even though it was a 4 banger.:D

Seriously ... a car has brakes to stop it. If something breaks, you take it to a mechanic.

Practicality: 2

No legroom in the back seat, Premium only gas and 17.5 MPG average. Yep, “sports car”.

tl;dr

The review score:

The Final Score: 31 of 50

I'm sure the low mpg was partially caused by the ridiculous wheels messing everything up.

86boyAF1 09-18-2012 08:19 AM

There is no way I would have driven that car with those wheels. I would have rather just reviewed a vacuum cleaner if I wanted to test something that sucks that hard.

draggin_az 09-18-2012 09:20 AM

this is the most ridiculous review of the frs ive seen

like mentioned aboved the gas milage is from those hideous wheels. i drive the piss out of my car and get an average of 24mpg.

"average tank will cost $60".....no one fills up their tank when they are completly out of gas so your not going to put in 13.2 gallons every time you fill up. i fill up when the gas light comes on and its consistently 10 gallons. realistic price per tank is 38-42 bucks.

did you base "practicality" on a family of 4 buying this car? last i checked this car was targeted towards males under 30. who cares if there is leg room in the back. this car was designed to be a fun every day driver or a track car and advertised as such. its lived up to said advertisment. to me thats pretty practical.

SUB-FT86 09-18-2012 09:50 AM

I will never put wheels and tires heavier than 41 lbs on this car ever! Its a 4 banger for f*cks sake.

jadewbj 09-18-2012 10:16 AM

The review is pretty much useless due to the heavy ass 20's. Go drive one with the right size wheels and report the difference.

Blackfly 09-18-2012 10:20 AM

I appreciate all the comments, positive and negative.

Just a reminder, the test bed was all that was on the lot. They cant keep them in stock.

draggin_az - I agreed the car lived up to it's advertisement. And the segment the car was designed for is correct also but it's not a practical car.

My 2002 and 2011 Camaro SS is not practical either. Sports cars are not designed to be practical, in general.

A Honda accord and the like... that is practical.

Also, anyone who posts directly on my blog will be automatically entered to win a pair of Tickets to the Super Chevy Show at Royal Purple Raceway, just out side of Houston, Texas.
